Hint He won his last Midget championship in 1968.There was a mention some where a while back and that he might have been considered one of the top 50 midget drivers of all time?

Yes that is alive and still kicking Burt Foland. I dont recall any water pipe? But he did most of the frame welding with a Gas torch and Brazing rod If I recall correctly. The nose on the car is a Benson nose upside down.
Yea I got the old main pc up and running again. Had to ditch all My old stuff. I am now spending a few hrs looking up the old sites. Send Me all the old timers sites you have plugged in? Address's that is.
By the way I stumbled across Blakie Blackwells web site. there is a link on the chili bowl web site. I see where he has a bunch of cars entered in the Chili Bowl again. Boy it seems like yesterdasy I first saw Him running a Hardtop at Alviso speedway. That was about 1957 and 58. I think he was about 3years old then, LOL
Where the heck you been hiding?
Call Me when you get a minute, I have a few questions for you.

              More on Burt Foland

He was inducted into the San Jose speedway Hall of fame in 1995.
              Quotes form his induction.
He was one of the best alll around drivers to ever appear at San Jose speedway. An ace in both the Supers and Midgets, But was best known for his Midget exploits in the BCRA and USAC midget divisions. He was the BCRA championship driver back to back in 1967 & 68.
He recorded victories in the Hardtops,Modifieds, Supers along with the midgets. Last to set and still hold the track record for midgets there at 14.60 done at the last Midget race there ever. He was also the winner of the Johnny Key Memorial classic for Super modified back to back in 1967 & 68.
He also holds the all time record in His career for Midget Main Events wins with 18 there. And had a 4 race consecutive win streak tied with Bob Machin for most in the midgets.
and after all that He is still alive and kicking out in Mt. View ca.

Almost 10 years before the high-banked, 1/3 mile paved, San Jose Speedway was closed, Burt Foland still held the all-time midget track record set in the Jack London Offy (George Benson chassis) in the November 1970 100-lap USAC National Championship race. A race in which he won. He set the record with little 12" M&H slicks on the rear. Also, ask anyone who was at the February 1971 USAC midget race if they will ever forget the 100 lap "trophy dash" that Burt had with Tommy Astone? note: Burt was in Ollie Johnson's Offy this time and Tommy was in Jack London's car. Burt Foland "owned" San Jose Speedway!
