  • Oh well!

I have to admit (with no disrespect to Levi intended) that I was really hoping Dave Darland could pull off another sprint championship. He gave it a hell of a try with a great late season push - you can't do much more than Dave did the last part of the season. So much for all that washed up, too old garbage. (So much ageism in all racing these days, but that's for another day)

Congratulations to Levi and his team - they were definitely the team to beat in the stretch run this year, and I think Levi will be a very good champion and a definite threat to repeat in 2006! Levi fans take a bow and take a load off your feet, you deserve it!

Sidebar - what do you guys think went wrong with the Stewart cars the latter part of the season? I'm a Jay Drake fan so please take it easy on my tender feelings!

Liz, I have to admit that I didn't know who to pull for. Both drivers and teams were so deserving of the title. Levi was strong all year and made his major push with his wins at Eldora and Terre Haute. Dave, other than sub par pavement performances early in the year, was strong also and simply could not have done more than he did the last month. Bringing Jack French on board to help the pavement program brought instant results with a win at Winchester. Six straight top fives in the six races out west with wins on both big money nights was classic championship material. But Levi and the Benic team responded with six straight top fives of their own and actually increased the margin from 9 points going in to a final 13 markers. It was a championship well earned and well deserved. Darland proved again why the vast majority of us fans think so highly of him, both on the track and off. It was great theater. As far as the Stewart situation I think that Drake suffered from splitting his time with the Infiniti Pro Series. I can't explain the performance of Wise.

And the box score from last night

Dwight, I would point out that Josh Wise did win the USAC Midget title, at least. The sprint car program was probably disappointing to the Stewart group, I'd guess. And Jay did struggle more than normal this year. If I was gonna root for anyone, it would have been Dave, but no matter. Levi earned it and will be a great champ.

Danny, thanks for pointing out that Josh Wise is the 2005 USAC Midget champ. My comments were directed to the sprint car program. I didn't mean to put down his all around efforts.

I knew that! I've yet to hear Dwight put down anything or anyone.
