  • Midgets @ the Hoosier Dome

    (wishful thinking perhaps)

I thought I remembered hearing that the winter Dome races were on a one year hiatus for 2005 & would return for 2006 - does anyone have any information on this?

I always enjoyed the Dome races - so great to hear the engines in mid-winter & get that fume fix (I could use one right now ).

Liz, I haven't heard anything about the Dome but do you plan on making one of the weekends at Duquoin? Or is that too far?

I probably wouldn't go to Duquoin in winter; I was thinking about going to Fort Wayne if they are still running the week between Christmas & New Years. I have that week off from work unless the evil corporate masters change their collective minds...

They are running at Fort Wayne. The dates are Dec. 29 & 30. All USAC racing begins at 7:00 p.m. each night.

I thought I read that with the new turf installed in the dome, there would be no more racing there... period. Apparently they can't just roll it up like they used to or something.

Then again, when does the whole thing get torn down? 2008?

No more racing at the Dome. The new turf won't allow it. Kinda doubt that the new stadium will be any different either.

If they can't fold up the turf to race in the Dome, how are they going to play basketball in there. Do they just put the hardwood floor and all the seating on the field turf? Just wondering.

Which races will the Mall Santas be attending?

BTW what's the word on that new turf in the Hoosier Dome? I didn't get to see very much of the Monday Night game but it looked to me like it was a little slippery.

But maybe the Broncos' running back picked the wrong shoes?

I been feeling it since 1966, now..."

You should check out the stuff for yourself, WS.

Artificial turf has come a looooooong way.

I agree. They have the same turf installed at the Colts training complex and I got to check it out there one day. Pretty amazing stuff... it doesn't feel like a carpet with no padding anymore. Doesn't feel exactly like grass either, but it's pretty darn close.

I don't know what the dome does for non-football events now. I know they used to roll up the old turf and stack it. I'd be surprised if they left the turf down and just put things on top of it.
