The Sunday show at Volusia is actually an afternoon start.(for anyone who was thinking about attending or watching on Dirtvision)

Day shows suck but at least they dont lose a show down there.

Better than not racing at all.

Their reasoning is to try to get the show over before the Superbowl starts or so it does not run too far into the game.(which might be a good call in regards to local fans attending seeing that a Florida team is in the game this year) New Smyrna is doing their normal nighttime racing. Of course since New Smyrna is a pavement track, they feel the need to legit have over 3 hours of practice for 4 divisions that are only running 35 lap features.

And nothing would change if they too got 3 hot laps and went right into time trials.

The asphalt tracks in New England are still not that bad in regards to practice for weekly shows. Usually start practice about 2 hours before the race program, do about 90 minutes, take a 30 minute break and start running the heats. About a decade ago some young crew member with too much "NASCAR on the brain" went to either North Carolina or Florida for a regular weekly show and cam back with his "great findings" to share on a message board. The kid thought it was amazing they started practicing at around noon, did so for a few hours before time trialing then took a 3 hour break before the features so they could work on their cars some more. The guy proclaimed all the tracks in our area should start doing the same immediately. Pretty much ever other driver, crew member, fan, and track official on the board told the kid to keep his dumb ideas to himself.

Because everybody wants to head for the track at 10am and get home at midnight every Saturday night , right?

What's everyone's thoughts about the Bristol race this year? Seems like a lot of teams are skipping out on the invites and concerned about safety.

Who is skipping out? I may not go then... as I am planning on driving down from DC to see it.

I saw Lance DeWease turned them down publicly. Heard rumblings that others are in the same boat but we just haven't heard names yet since its "invite only".
