It was standing room only once again as L'Burg honored its Champions Dickie Gaines, Greg Beem, Steve Gaines in their respective divisions. Sprint Rookie of the Year went to Andy Hartman #7, and Sportsman of the year went to Rodney Stone #16. Promoter Tom Wieck pointed out that now Dick Gaines and Dicke Gaines, Jr (Dickie) are the only father - son to win Lawrenceburg Sprint titles, and next year will have a "Dick Gaines Memorial" race to honor the late Dick Gaines, and his son Dickie. He also said next year champion will receive $2,500. (this years was $2,000) As always Tom has a contest for the drivers in the top ten, and this year it was a Hoola Hoop contest, with a winner from each division eventually getting into a final "Hoop Off", were sprint driver Mike Hunnicutt was the winner. Lawrenceburg had 36 evens scheduled for 2003 and got 31 of them in. Mod drivers Jef Harris and Greg Beem both congratulated Dickie Gaines on his getting Lawrenceburg Speedway some recognition with his great run at the Eldora Million. It was a good time, and I think I ate too much!!
