  • Darland Wins at Springfield

Dave Darland was on a mission today boys. Not his usual talkative self in the pits, but very very focused.

He was .8 UNDER the track record in practice (at a 29.11 on the watches), set quick time at a 30.240, just .3 off the record in the MIDDLE of the qualifying order. He then led 98 or 99 laps to win, Jerry Coons second, Tyler Walker an impressive third, fourth to Jay Drake.

Terrible accident in turn one on a lap 88 restart involved Richie Tobias barrell rolling several times, and a couple other cars on their head as well. All were OK.

Yeley was in trouble from the start, the car pushed terribly all day and he finished several laps down

I'm very happy to see that Richie was okay. He and the rest of that group are a bunch of great guys. We'll be awaiting word from tobyracing for more updates on Richie's condition.

Congratulations to Dave he always seems to find a way to win in SC. For Jay Drake and team a very good accomplishment considering last night at 6:00 pm the engine was in Cincinatti after being repaired.

Dad said Tobias lost a right rear tire (i think that is what I remember) causing his ride.

        re: Springfield wreck

        Danny,

Rich is fine after a wreck that he stated was the worst of his career. The car is totally trashed. The safety crew cut the top off of the chassis to get Rich out. There is very little that can be salvaged off of the car for reuse. The wreck even broke the drive line and the front motor mounts off of the engine block.

We were going to run both the Crown and Sprint race at Naz', but we'll only be running the Crown portion now.

More details will be on www.openwheelracing.com on Monday.
