  • Richie Tobias @ Syracuse - Super DIRT Week

Well it's that time of year again...

We are getting ready to head back to the Syracuse Mile with Richie "Toby" Tobias, Jr. Super DIRT Week kicks-off again this coming Wednesday and Tobias will, once again, be teamed with the #USA1 Lineman Racing Team from Doylestown, PA. Car owner, Bob Lineman, will be providing Richie with an updated 2007 Troyer chassied big-block dirt modified, powered by a Kevin Enders built racing engine. This is the same car that Tobias piloted to a 3rd place finish in 2007 and a 5th place finish last year. The car has been re-skinned with a new Troyer designed Syracuse body.

Cross your fingers and wish us good luck...we're off to the "Moody Mile"! I'll try to keep all of you updated as the week progresses.

Good luck boys. I was there to see his dad win in the 70s' and saw Toby Jr.s win in the rain in '92.

Thanks, we'll do our best and I can guarantee that Richie will be up on the wheel, elbows up. I was 5 years old when Dick Tobias won the 1975 "Schaefer 100" at Syracuse. I went to that race with my dad and we sat on the tailgate of our family station wagon, parked in the infield at the starting point of turn one. Richie and his dad are still the only father-son combination to have won the big-block portions of Super DIRT Week.

I was fortunate enough to be part of Richie's crew when he won the 1992 race in the Council Harrell Trucking #35. Richie is still the youngest driver to win that race and the last driver to win the race in a self-designed/built chassis.

First photos of the car will be taken while it sits in the early inspection line on Tuesday...don't expect a showcar or anything real different from our past graphics...car owner prefers to spend the $$$ on the engine and components! He would "rather have the car go fast, than look fast".

I'll post photos with my progress reports.

I bet it'll look real good wingin' around the outside groove.

Best of luck to the Tobias Team!
Will the race be shown on network TV, Speed maybe? It used to be shown every year.
                Have a very blessed day!

Haven't heard anything about TV coverage for this year...if I do, I will post information. "Little Man" is usually good for this type of information.

Tuesday - report from the track is rain in Syracuse all day. Tobias' car went through early inspection today, with minor issues with the body work. Issues were corrected and the car has been given the green light to race.

Tomorrow's schedule gives us our first track time from 3-6pm, hot-lap session. Forecast is 30% chance of rain on Wednesday...

Wednesday: wet track conditions delayed and shortened the hot-lap session today. Engine ran stout and Richie was very happy with the car's handling. Track was very heavy, but rough going into turn one and between turns 3 & 4. DIRT seems to be spending a lot more time and effort to prepare the track than they have done in recent years past. Richie finished the day turning the 11th fastest time. Time trials are scheduled for Thursday.

Youre making quite a big assumption there

Im not sure they ever prepared the track in past years.

Ive seen that track go dry slick before the races even started
