    APRIL 19 LAWRENCEBURG SPRINT RACE POSTPONED;

    NEW DATE BEING NEGOTIATED

    Inclement weather, which has led to construction delays at Lawrenceburg (Ind.) Speedway, has forced postponement of the scheduled April 19 USAC National Sprint Car race at the dirt track.

    The track is undergoing extensive upgrades, including increasing the size of the oval, installation of concrete walls and catch fencing and other amenities which will elevate Lawrenceburg Speedway among the elite short tracks in the nation.

    “Race organizer Dave Rudisell and I are working to establish a viable reschedule date and hope to make an announcement regarding that soon,” said USAC National Sprint Coordinator Greg Staab.

    Lawrenceburg Speedway has a storied USAC racing history, having hosted a total of 52 USAC Midget, Sprint and Ford Focus races since A.J. Foyt won the Midget opener there in 1961. Jon Stanbrough and Dave Darland, the winningest USAC drivers in track history, shared “Indiana Sprint Week” glory there last year, while National Sprint Champ Levi Jones also won in the Sprints and Kevin Swindell won in the Midgets during 2007.

      Lawrenceburg is still scheduled to run their weekly Sprints on April 19, per their schedule, it was the USAC race that was cancelled for the reasons stated above. It is still uncertain whether the L'burg track will be ready for any race action on the 4/19, stay tuned.

          GAS CITY DOUBLES UP, ADDING APRIL 19 SPRINT RACE

          Gas City (Ind.) I-69 Speedway will present back-to-back USAC National Sprint Car races April 18-19 as a result of the recent announcement regarding postponement of the April 19 race at Lawrenceburg (Ind.) Speedway.

          Race organizer Jiggs Thomason has added the Saturday night, April 19, race to his already-scheduled April 18 event. That creates a three-race weekend for the series, with the “Rich Vogler Classic” slated at the 1/2-mile paved Winchester (Ind.) Speedway on Sunday, April 20.

          “Inclement weather led to construction delays at Lawrenceburg, opening the April 19 date,” indicates series coordinator Greg Staab. “While we are in the process of rescheduling the Lawrenceburg race, Jiggs has stepped forward to keep the three-race weekend intact for race fans.”

          The past six years have seen 11 USAC Sprint races on the 1/4-mile Gas City dirt, Jon Stanbrough winning three times, Cory Kruseman and J.J. Yeley winning twice. Tracy Hines, Jay Drake, Shane Cottle and Daron Clayton also own Sprint wins there under USAC sanction.

              Tentative plans will call for Gas City both nights, with my daughter's house serving as a motel. Then off to Winchester on Sunday.

                gas city

                my wife (still feels weird saying that) has never been to gas city. She wants me to take her to a dirt track this year where she will actually get dirty. Bloomington we came away clean. Same with eldora and a bunch of others. I think if we sit just off of turn 4 at gas city we might finally get it. Gas city is one of my favorite tracks. Just haven't been there in a while cause of work schedule and the mess that is I-69.
