  • Da Matta

Now that Marco has filled the seat that Da Matta was supposedly offered at AGR, where does Da Matta go? Will he return to PKV? Do they offer similar money to what AGR was offering?

Who said DaMatta was "offered" the seat at AGR?

A quick search came up with this thread. I'm not sure if there are any links in there or if it is just speculation.

Looks to be more like discussion board speculation. Not suprised.

FarSide, My guess would be back to PKV with similar money as last year unless Haas or someone with real money comes forward. Based on performance last year, he'll probably be back where he was.

From Cavin's Dec. 19 AutoWeek article:

AGR officials are believed to have talked to Cristiano da Matta, but the information pipeline has quieted down in recent weeks.
A better question may be where does RHR now go?

AGR offered Damatta the seat, that isnt speculation. The power of quotes!

“PKV and I are still talking and we are not too far apart,” said da Matta at Mexico City. “But the Andretti-Green offer is a serious one. For sure the IRL is a mainly oval series and I mainly like road and street circuits in the Champ Car series, but the opportunity to go to the best team in the IRL is interesting. PKV is a good team but a young team and one that will take some time to be at the top of the game.

“I think I will probably be back with PKV. I have a meeting with (co-owners) Kevin Kalkhoven and Jimmy Vasser this week and we will see what happens.”
Motorsports coverage includes news, highlights, rankings and more spanning NASCAR, Formula 1, NHRA, ARCA, MotoGP, IndyCar and more auto racing circuits.

That Damatta passed up the ride is interesting. He must feel that hes got a shot for a top seat in ChampCar, im guessing. Obviously seats are starting to run out, especially with the strong rookie performances out of Pantano, Dalziel, and Briscoe in PKVR testing.

DaMatta, RHR, and Dominguez are the major cards yet to fall this year, it seems.

Why trade the devil you know for the devil you don't know? Things aren't exactly the Gravy train in CC, but all things considered (read:car counts) I'd stay in CC one more year to see where the chips land.

Do you mean where Chip lands?

The other guess is maybe the AGR offer was similar to Wheldon's F-1 offer. Perhaps it was something the driver slipped out to keep his name in circulation.

Dunno if this is new info, but da Matta's name appears in both PKV and N/H's entries on the TSN Silly Season page:

PKV (updated Feb 15): - contract talks between the team and his agent have not gone smoothly and the Brazilian has been linked to a move to Newman/Haas

N/H (updated Feb 6): - the fly in the third car ointment. He has no deal with PKV for next year and Haas admits he's one of his favourites... "But I wouldn't want to take one of Kevin's drivers unless he wasn't going to keep him."
