  • CART teams qualifying for indy.

With the schedule coming out in a few weeks, I wonder if CART is planning to leave any qualifying weekends open for teams and drivers who want to take a qualifying run for the indy500? If they plan on racing in Korea or any other venue overseas during this time, it may be hard. Vasser easily did it last year because the number of entrants was small and there was no bumping.

I was thinking it made sense to combine Korea with Australia in the fall.
If it doesn't have wings... It isn't worth talking about!

I don't think it will get substantially harder to make the show next year. Foyt and D&R will still be there right?

I don't think the problem was getting in, but getting a shot at pole. Yes, Vasser had no problem getting in, but he also had no shot at pole, no matter how fast he went, because CART scheduled one of their European stops that same weekend.

Hey, don't forget taht Sarah Fisher will try to compete again next year, so that is at least 3 drivers that any CART driver could post a faster time then on the second round of qualifying.

Back on the subject, I would expect there would be a CART race on at least one of the qualifying days.
After years of fighting and a split, guess what, we are all IndyCar

October will always be a sad racing month for me. RIP Greg and Dan. You both were great and we miss you.

How about a night race in Cleveland on one of the weekends? The distance from indy would be

            Total Distance: 316.59 miles
Total Estimated Time: 4 hours, 54 minutes

According to what I've read elsewhere, the Korea race will be coupled with Surfers on back-to-back weekends in the fall so the two promoters can split travel expenses. The European vacation is gone, so what goes in for May is anyone's guess.

Is it Troll Day, or what?

Just FYI, look at 2002, the last year there were more than 33 cars attempting to qualify.

"Slow" Sarah qualified 9th, faster than "notables" like the guy that drives the "JIMMY" car, "Mad" Max Papis, Kenny Brack, and all of Team Green--and I'll spell that out for you so you needn't bother with facts: Mikey, Dario and Paul. Faster than the Penske duo as well. BTW, her teammate, Buhl, was 2nd fastest qualifier.

BTW, where do you buy a "JIMMY"?

Add to Brent: And Walker showed up one year with Servia and missed the show.

If the Vegas race happens it could be in May.

Plus Servia is not that great.

I've got no idea how he has stayed in CART this long with, well, little to no results.

                        Him and Patreek Carbender...

Plus, what good does a 9th place start do if you lose 20 places in those first couple of laps. If you are looking for an answer, try asking AOL and GMAC.

2002 also. Never could get it up to speed.
