  • Will the winner at Long Beach be the 2008 CCWS Champion?

Heard today on the F1 race that Sebastian will be the last ChampCar champion, but is that true?

With points being awarded in the IndyCar Series for this race I assume there wouldn't be a 2008 Champion............

That seems to make sense. CC isn't awarding a championship this year from what I've heard. And IRL is taking the points from LB, so it makes sense.

I suppose this race is technically run under the irl banner.
So no champcar champion in 08.

You are correct. Points will count towards the IndyCar championship.

Sure, and he can put his name on the bankruptcy creditor's list for his championship earnings.

Does anyone really credit Buzz Calkins for his so-called IRL championship after only 3 races?

The answer to that is an unfortunate yes - but in this case with Long Beach I don't see history repeating. Bourdais is the last champ.

So PT and Foresyth will obtain some IRL points after all, this year, eh?

While all of you are fantasizing about some CCWS champoinship, I would like to remind you that...

                  Champ Car is GONE!!!!!!

They closed shop a few weeks ago and kept a few employees on board to handle the LBGP for the owners of the race, which is not Champ Car!!!

This will be an Indycar race, sanctioned by the IRL. They will be using the series formally called Champ Car's assets to run the race.

This thread makes about as much sense as the 2007 CART Employee of the Year thread!!!! Neither exsists...

I was wondering if the venue will be festooned with Indycar banners, promotional trailers, and will the teams have IRL logos on the cars? Or will it be old CC banners, and such? Hmm..

Dude, relax. It was a simple question that was answered. No one if fantasizing about anything.

Probably the latter if the LBGP website is any indication. They're still using all the CC banners and such on everything, even parts of the site updated since the merger. I think that while it is an IRL event, it will be run as a Champ Car event in the spirit of it being CC's swan song event.

This is right, I think. It will award IRL points, but is being run as the final CCWS event. From everything I have read, there was something in the bankruptcy filing asking that they (CCWS) be allowed to keep a limited staff on long enough to put on this final CCWS event.

Yeah I just bought my Long Beach tickets a little while ago and they're also still calling it the "Champ Car Paddock", "Champ Car race" etc... at the ticket office. If there is any IRL presence beyond the points given for the race I suspect it'll be minimal last minute additions to the track in the form of a few stickers and banners.
