  • CART/CCWS Drivers you wish could have been in Merged Series

Who do you wish had gotten the chance to be in a merged series:

I have four on my list:

    1) Greg Moore: Would probably already be an ICS driver with Penske and have an Indy 500 win to his credit. God speed Greg.

    2) Alex Zanardi: He would have been awesome.

    3) Sea Bass: How would he have managed against all the top flight competition? Pretty well I suspect.

    4) Jimmy Vasser: Would have loved to have seen him against the top talent every week. Good on ovals and roads/streets. And a great guy.

Who would you have liked to have seen? Remember, there is and was some great talent in CART/CCWS post split.

After years of fighting and a split, guess what, we are all IndyCar

October will always be a sad racing month for me. RIP Greg and Dan. You both were great and we miss you.

        Vasserfan's list, plus. . .

. . .I would have liked to have seen Carpentier compete with a Players' sponsored FCR in a unified series. I always liked PC and would be curious to see how he would have developed as a driver in that environment.

          Current guys:

          AJ Allmendinger
          Nelson Phillipe

          Others:

          Da Matta
          Zanardi
          Vasser

I don't think Zanardi would've been that great. His results during his 2001 comeback season weren't anywhere near his '96-'98 results.
Bourdais might return to America sooner or later. It's easy to predict the STR machine will barely be competative, and he doesn't have a lobby within the team. He'll share da Matta's fate, which brings us to
Christiano da Matta, who I'd love to see at Indy, if he's in shape for racing.
Has Allmendinger qualified for a NASCAR race this year already? He might be back pretty soon.
Scott Speed is probably an option too, although I can't stand the guy (sorry, he's not a CART/CCWS driver).
              Montoya, Franchitti, Hornish(not CART/CCWS, either)...all possible.
Villeneuve, possible as well. Not sure if anyone wants to see him though.

But the two guys I really would love to see back are

              KENNY BRؤCK

              and

              ADRIAN FERNANDEZ!!!

Brack's last race was in an IndyCar. His wreck at Texas remains one of the worst I've ever seen. I was almost certain that he'd been killed. That we would recover and run one more 500 was simply amazing. Brack is interesting because he went from IndyCar to CART and then back to IndyCar.

Did anyone else check out the song he did about Foyt? It had an excellent video...very funny.

Weren't Adrian's final open wheel laps turned in the ICS? Back in '04? He won three races after making the switch. Not bad at all! I saw his win at Joliet in person. I always like Fernandez. It's too bad he's been unable to sustain his ICS team.

It's interesting how many drivers have spent time in both series. Dixon, Kanaan & Helio have all spent time in CC/CART. All three posted their first winds in CART. Brack also won races in both series. If he could have pulled off the CART crown in 2001 he could have won a championship in both series as well as an Indy 500 crown. Not too bad.

Alex Barron has also done stints in both leagues...as has Scott Sharp and Bryan Herta. Dario Franchitti has now raced in CART...IndyCar and NASCAR. As has JPM (if you count his Indy win...which technically was an IndyCar event).

I of course cannot leave out Tora! Tora! Tora! Takagi who was basically miserable in CART and IndyCar.

I guess what I'm trying to point out is that there has been quite a bit of crossing over between series over the last decade.

Allmendinger isn't doing anything so why not bring him in.

Understeer: you hit the wall with the front of the car.
Oversteer: you hit the wall with the back of the car.
Horsepower: how fast you hit the wall.
Torque: how far you take the wall with you.

Oversteer is when the driver finds his limits. Snap oversteer is when the limits find the driver.

                              Speed
...the list could go on and on and on and...
