My favorite 747 memory is of seeing one from above. I was cruising along in a little 150 during my flight training en route to Wenatchee, WA, and had to cross through Grant County's airspace over Moses Lake. There was a 747 doing touch-and-goes. I remember looking down and seeing it climbing out, and laughing-it had its gear down, and from that angle, the gear looked absurdly small for the big, pudgy white airplane sitting on it.

I'm glad I got to ride in one. I took a trip to Israel, flying through Frankfurt on Lufthansa. The Chicago-Frankfurt and Frankfurt-Chicago legs were on 747-8s.Comment

We have many 747 flights here every day. We are one of the few 24 hour open airports in Europe. CGN.Comment

I always get an extra bit of enjoyment watching the 747s come in to land at KSDF from my office downtown. They are just awesome to watch. I really hope to fly on one at some point.Comment

I read a couple of years ago that one of the cheapo airlines thought about purchasing some 747 for domestic lights. That fell through, but maybe someone will do that someday.

This is the north pad, whatever it's called, shared by DHL, Atlas and sometimes UPS. Behind me is the rest of the cargo lineup, UPS, FedEx and then Kalitta and the other odds and ends.
I've seen as many as 30 at once, FedEx is mostly 767s and DC-10s, the rest are mostly 747s.
Big expansions supposed to be happening. FedEx is going to spend $200 million, DHL $120 million, big chunks from Amazon and UPS and others. $175 million from a local company.
I drive out there just about every night, get hassled all the time by the airport cops. Get stopped at least once a month...
