Yes the Buran test flight was to certify the handling characteristicsits. Landing configuration.

Nothing to do with Buran transport from a to b. Vehicle was built and assembled at the launch site, Baikohnor).

First of all it might still be around. There is a pic of the tail sticking out of a hanger that is not burned. But the ftont of the hanger looks damaged.

From here where the plane was probably most used it was for turbines ( the mid size ones are 400,000-500,000lbs)and big transformers. Small things that are heavy.

That big Putzmeister pump weighs 190,000lbs. I looked it up.

The AN-225 was in Anchorage 8 times in May and June of 2020 hauling PPE. Cool as hell to watch that thing but I guess that won't happen again.

Damn. Like all that has gone with it, so completely unnecessary.

Read somewhere that Antonov didn't fly the AN 225 out of there when war became imminent because it was not airworthy.

Some more discussion of the damage to the AN-225 and if it can be rebuilt. Encouraging that the second airframe was elsewhere and sounds like it's safe at this point. Probably a longshot that we'll ever see it in the air IMO.

Ukraine has vowed to rebuild the gigantic Mriya AN-225 airplane after it was destroyed in the Russian invasion. While this would restore a symbol of pride for the country, getting this unique Soviet-era aircraft back in the air will be a challenge.

I did see an Antonov AN-124 here the other day. Rumor is they are flying Patriot missiles to Ukraine, National Air Cargo also involved.

I suspect they are not flying over Russian or Chinese air space.

Sounds like military aid deliveries are being made through Germany and thence to Poland. If they're stopping in Alaska they might be going up over the Pole.

Possible, could be coming from stockpiles on the West Coast.

When I was working for Pioneer Natural Resources in Las Colinas, we chartered one to take a couple subsea wellheads from Houston to Africa. I didn't get to go to IAH for the loadout, but the pictures I saw were pretty awesome.

Canada confiscated a Russian AN-124 and just gave it to Ukraine. The $330,000 bill for parking it in Toronto is going to be sent to Russia. Good luck with that...
