We actually owe a lot to Sputnik. It jump-started our space program and made it a priority.

And now we have a NASA space program that has been emasculated by our current president. What goal is it aiming for now ??

          Going to Mars .... meh

Going to the moon ... meh

We're spending billions on WHAT ?????

Oh yeah .. making Muslim's feel good about themselves .. that's what a "space program" should be used for.

When the Chinese have a moon base with lasers capable of taking out all our communications, spy, and GPS satellites, when the Indian's have astronauts in space, and the Russian's have control of the ISS (because they have the only delivery vehicles able to go to the station) I'm gonna feel really good about the US space "program".

          Freaking JOKE.

There are several President's and numerous sessions of Congress on both sides of the aisle to blame for the downfall of NASA, but take the political crap to the last door down the hall, it's not welcome here.
