  • Schedules yet to come

It appears the 2014 INDYCAR schedule will be what it will be, oh brother. But maybe it's a stop gap until other outside forces make changes and INDYCAR reacts and changes.

OK it's Mike Mulhern who isn't all that. So many tracks have already sent out 2014 renewals partly because the NASCAR schedule is so long and starts so early 2014 doesn't really have room to change much. Along with the fact that Brian France said there wouldn't be major changes.

What if NASCAR was going to make changes for 2015, shifting several dates around and who knows what as mentioned in the article? It could both push INDYCAR in some ways and open doors in others.

Think about how several ISC tracks have said that they would welcome an Indycar race but not for 2014, Phoenix, Watkins Glen, Chicagoland etc but they could make 2015 work, with the old, if the business and financial side makes sense. What if those tracks have been told that there could be changes to the NASCAR schedules for 2015 so wait and see where their dates shift to to see where an Indycar race would fit.

Shifting Cup dates also affect the NNW and CWTS schedules because they run as support races for almost all of them but also have their own stand alone dates which have to work in conjunction with Cup. And now that NASCAR is shifting to FOXSports1,2 along with NBC and NBCSN in 2015 they will need better coordinate the race and qualifying times when the three series' are at different venues to prevent overlap.

That also matters to INDYCAR because when the NBC and NBCSN portion of the NASCAR season starts NBCSN will have to find ways to avoid having two things to air at the same time.

Most 2014 schedules seems to be a holding pattern. NASCAR is probably not going to alter any of their three divisions much, INDYCAR is going to keep almost all the venues and condense theirs and USCR is cutting back on some venues that were on either of their two former series'. One big factor in waiting to realign the schedules is in 2014 the NASCAR TV deals remain in place, they change in 2015 to FOX and NBC. That means NASCAR may have to change their schedules to reduce TV conflicts. NASCAR may feel they need a year to adjust the Cup schedule, which affects the N(NW) and CWTS schedules plus fitting the USCR in. Those potential TV conflicts also factor in when INDYCAR races are on NBCSN. And not just races but the golf, tennis etc that the networks have.

Some of that may be why the USCR schedule dropped some venues, not really for the venue as much for when the track and TV had time to fit in.

2014 TUDOR United SportsCar Championship Schedule

    Jan 25-26 Daytona International Speedway
    Mar 15 Sebring International Raceway
Apr 12 Long Beach Street Circuit
May 4 Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca
    May 31 Detroit Belle Isle
    Jun 29 Watkins Glen International
Jul 13 Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
    Jul 25 Indianapolis Motor Speedway
    Aug 10 Road America
    Aug 24 Virginia International Raceway
Sep 20 Circuit of The Americas
    Oct 4 Road Atlanta

Mid-Ohio and Lime Rock really take a hit not having a sports car race as they have for many years. The trade off for M-O is having the (Nationwide) race now. INDYCAR has the two combo weekends and IMS has the Friday race on Brickyard weekend.

One surprising thing is Kansas not having the USCR weekend. ISC spent the money on the road course, they obviously want to add race weekends so as to draw people to their casino, they've already put in lights that barely get used. Kansas already has 2 Cup races so the only way it would seem they have to add to their calendar would be an Indycar race.

If Chicagoland stays as the opening Chase race considering how sparse the crowd at the N(NW) race in July has been they can't see sticking with that as a good idea, they might as well have an Indycar race even doubling the two up.

Austrlian V8 supercars just dropped COTA for next year. The are looking to do a least a month in North America. Perhaps we can do a couple of doubles with them

Bad news everyone! It looks as if the Australian V8 Supercars race at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, is being dropped from the series' 2014 calendar. It's supposedly only temporary, but even still, it's very sad to hear.
I'd rather have 10% of the world interested in the ICS than 50% of US that NASCAR currently has
