Nascar has jumped all over the great show put on by their truck series at Eldora. Just shows that there is a market to bring true versatility to the Indycar series also. Wouldn't really cost much either. Just make 2 or 3 of the USAC Silver Crown races count toward the Indycar title and if say Scott Dixon (who could drive any type of car) for example wanted to get some extra points, he could get the old Chipster to sponsor his ride in a Silver Crown event and get the points. Would also possibly get the Indycar fans familar with this form of racing instead of some ignorantly throwing insults or uninformed comments at it.

Why not? But then if you were seriously asking you could see the answer is already there.

It's called reaching out to expand the fan base, and using cars that already exist, and dates that can be worked around, the expense would be minimal.

What's stopping that fanbase from watching Indy cars now? Why is it necessary to waste a couple weekends to send some drivers to a race at a dirt track that MIGHT draw a couple thousand people?

The grassroots fanbase had their opportunity when the IRL was around to turn out in droves and make that series a success.
They didn't show up in enough numbers nor hung around long enough to make a difference.

I see no reason to waste the time.

I'd like to see a demo at least.
"It takes a special level of incompetance to make a schedule this terrible. America is possibly the greatest country in the world overall for tracks. To make a bad schedule in America takes effort. A special kind of effort. A kind of effort that only IndyCar could come up with."

Thanks for at least being open minded enough for that.

Not talking about the "IRL". Quit living in the past. I'm talking about expanding the fan base TODAY. The stands at any Indycar race besides Indianapolis are not exactly overflowing. There would be room for a "couple of thousand" new fans.

Why not configure a U.S. National Driver Championship, and allow points to be accumulated across disciplines?

Figure out a way to reward diversity, so a Cup driver gets IndyCar points multiplied, an IndyCar driver gets a dirt bonus, etc.

Get a sponsorship and make it pay. Then all you gotta do is get fans to care about it Some obviously would. Make it valuable, respectable bragging rights for drivers.

Might want to see if you can't get a decent crowd for the Hoosier Hundred, too.

Good ideas here too. Although I'd keep the OW and fenders separate.

I do what I can at the HH, would be nice to have a sanctioning body that could/would do more also.

OK, great idea and you are in charge. I'll be the first to sign up for tickets for the events with the sedan drivers jumping into an Indy car or anybody from Sedans or Indy jumping into a Silver Crown or Sprinter on dirt.

You know, I do think it'd be a hoot and a half to see Dario, TK, RHR, Marco, Ed, Seabass, and a few others spend a night playing in the DIRT in Sprint cars. Heck, don't even care if they're winged or not, 360s or 410s...heck even mini-sprints would be just fine.

Honestly, I wouldn't expect great racing, but it would be interesting to see who figures out 'turn right to go left' and who soils the nomex .I think Ed would smoke 'em all...but I might be surprised.

Maybe work a deal with Tony Stewart at Eldora similar to the recently demised Prelude to the Dream?

Ahhh, in all liklihood just a dream....but it's fun to dream sometimes.

Unless NASCAR pushes drivers into IndyCar, I doubt it matters
