For those who think the IRL is headed in the right direction, how long do you think it will be before the series is healthy again? Already healthy is an acceptable answer if that's the way you feel about it.

And for those of us, who think the IRL made a 180 followed fairly quickly by another 180, how long until it bites the dust for good?

Mr prediction is it will take another 5 years to totally tank. Possible slight bump this year, followed by "we need another gimmick, we need better marketing, we need more mfg. etc." and some cash infusions from TG and Honda or whoever he can get to help.

I agree with the premise,

But, the power of Indy will help sustain the thing longer than you would guess, no matter how many Toes TG lops off.

Driver stability a surefire key to sustaining a target audience. Every six years TG decides on a new direction effectively wiping out half the drivers and a chuck of the audience.

I sall an IBJ report today that said in 2000 the IRL had $145 million in sponsorship and CART had $495 million.

How the hell do they screw that up???

TG needs to turn this thing over to someone and let them run with it. Keep his hands off and allow that person to grow the sport without him looking over his shoulder and putting roadblocks up.

I doubt that will happen though.

I'll give you a perfect example.

It's a mind set. It's what sets NASCAR apart from Indy car.

It's about making sure that Tony George or Brian Barnhart was on that podium last year to reward the season championship winner (Dario) while the TV camera's were rolling.

They didn't bother to take the time.

It's what led this sport to the first split in 1979, to the 2nd 15 years later. It's the all about Indy attitude. The series can never fulfill it's true potential when the series owner is mostly concerned with filling the seats to a single race.

Nascar figured out a long time ago that's it's NOT all about Daytona.
