  • 2006 Daytona 500 Ratings

Im making a prediction that the ratings will be down.. What was the shootout ratings and pole day btw? I never saw them.. Imo i think 2006 will be the year Nascar levels off in popularity.. Accourse they will still have great TV ratings and attendance but i see there popularity as a fade like the NBA was in 1980's thru mid 1990's.. Nobody cares about the NBA anymore.. NASCAR better be careful how far they take this going global idea cause it will turn off alot of there new found fans..

Reasons I see for this are:
    - Way to much exposure 24/7/365
    - Soft ticket sales at tracks like Charlotte and Dover
    - Legends leaving the sport: Wallace, Elliott, Labonte, etc

I dont want this to turn into a NASCAR bash.. Just honest discussion..

The people I watched with, who include a wide range of racing interests, all agreed it was an excellent race. The coverage was as good as any oval race I've ever seen. It was possible to see situations setting up and the outcome of how each driver reacted to each other. There were some clear personality displays on track.

If anything, that's a recipe for better ratings.

I think the recent cold snap will help'em out. Plus, NASCAR has never been so popular or well-integarted into corporate America.

As soon as Nascar said they were clamping down on rough house driving I figured that will equate to at least a 1.0 drop. If the chances of a "big one" are diminished, what's the point in watching? Plate races are boring, I'd rather watch grass grow.

Race was sold out .. so I dont think your theory of the popularity waning is gonna stand.

Chris, even with the j/k, you've lost what little credibility you were gaining.

Sorry, but this has nothing to do with Champ Car or the IRL and everything to do with NASCAR.

I rated it an 8.3 because my guy didn't win.

He probably said "Wow, im making alot of money!" in 1994.

As for cup ratings, im guessing a little bit up from 05, although i didnt find the race that exceptionally exciting. I thought the Busch race was more exciting, though not a 'better' race.

Yes Nascar races are selling out, but the time it takes for them to sell out is increasing. Look at all the commercials for the races comming up. Heck Richmond is still selling blocks of eight in turn 2. The race in the past has been sold out by now.
