  • PHILLIPS: Hope for the Future in Atlantics

Good article. Towards the bottom, Phillips gets into the meat of the Atlantics and what tools it will use to bolster, what looks to be, the biggest OW ladder system in the US. Also talks about some Iroc stuff-

Motorsports coverage includes news, highlights, rankings and more spanning NASCAR, Formula 1, NHRA, ARCA, MotoGP, IndyCar and more auto racing circuits.

Phillips has about 11 confirmed drivers. Only 29 more to go.

I'll gladly pay it if I lose. That hasn't happened yet. Of course, I may have overlooked CC's management's desire to make this thing appear to be a monster success - I didn't really forecast GF running 4 cars. When Steve Johnson said they'd have "upper 30s" for a number of entries, I didn't think that a third of them would come from the series owners.

Bad forecasting on your part, that's all. Heck, a lot of people didn't forecast Mikey running 4 cars in the IRL (and now IPS cars too).

That's some interesting math you've got going on there. What's one third of upper thirties?" 12? 13?

I wouldn't sweat it too much. Car projections are funny things. I remember Barnharts bold prediction of running out of pit space at non-Indy races and having to send some entrants home.

              I like the double standard.

CCWS says there will be 40 Atlantics cars = gospel truth, it will happen!

BB says there will be 33 at Indy = no way, it is still too expense, no one will show!

This was for charity, right? How about if it's 21, both sides pay and the charities get a windfall.

I would even agree to pay a third each, me included, if you then refrain from posting any more quibbles about it.

Er, maybe... how much was it again? I suspect Jim plays at the hi roller tables

Steve Johnson was PROJECTING over thirty. Give me a link that Champ Car says "There will be 40 Atlantic cars on the starting grid in 2006"

The difference in your comparisons are easy to explain.
Atlantics, 40 cars ordered, over 30 PROJECTED by Steve Johnson.

There double standard is alive and well on both sides of the fence. Soldiers from each camp are casting doubt on projections by the other side. Does that surprise you?

Keep in mind, by the way, the 40 refers to cars ordered. Not to cars on the track at any given time.

Keep in mind, by the way, that Swift said they would deliver race cars to each team before they delivered backups.

Keep in mind, by the way, that Swift said they had sold "40+." Apparently they are so busy, they can't take time to count the invoices.

Keep in mind, by the way, that Steve Johnson said that over 40 had been sold and that the entry list would be in the "upper 30s."

Somebody just post a link to the bet and let's quit dorking around and get back on topic.

                          Double standards are fun.

eg., Forsythe runs 4 cars in a projected 20+ car field. Ergo, series owners are propping up weak series.

Sam Schmidt runs 4 or 5 cars in a projected 12 car IPS field. Ergo, he's making a positive contribution to the success of open-wheel racing and giving good drivers an opportunity.

                          Isn't it loverly?

The difference is, is that people will notice how many cars are at Indy, but pretty much no one will care how many cars are in a support series.

Besides, CCWS and truth don't belong in the same sentence.

Jim and I have a bet for 31 cars gridding at Elkhart Lake I believe. $50 bucks I think. Correcting me if I'm wrong Jim.
