As of today the IRL is without a Canadian driver. I'm not expecting to see PC back in the IRL or Cheever for that matter. I haven't heard of anyone else with interest running the IRL. I think it's a concern if they can't get someone so the CDN's have someone to support, without one I think the IRL won't even be televised up here. I doubt TSN would pick up the rights with dismal ratings and no CDN support.

Does it really matter?"Paff has been closer to the mark than anyone will give him credit for."

IF the IRL is on life support, than CCWS is getting the casket closed on it right now.Last edited by Sybil D. Sobydianz; 01-15-2006, 04:42 PM.

As an American IRL fan, I could really care less if it was seen in Canada or not. Doesn't bother me one way or the other. I've never really seen anything where part of the IRL's plan was to be an internationally based series. I understand why they go to Japan, but in the context of the Canadian races, I was never disappointed they didn't pick up one.
If there is a talented Canadian driver out there who wants to be in the IRL, great. If not, so be it. I'm not aware of any Canadian sponsors the IRL needs to satisfy, are you?
F1 fanru, why do you see that as a problem?

It's an easy rebroadcast of the ESPN signal for them. TSN and ESPN have an existing relationship (ESPN has a minority stake in TSN). Only question is squeezing it in to their very busy sports calendar, between golf, NASCAR, Canadian football (starts earlier than NFL)... they treat racing VERY poorly, it's about as low of priority as you can get.
They clipped the start of an F1 race for TAPE DELAYED BOXING. And not a real match, either, some TV reality show match.
TSN already suggested CC coverage was on the outs in a Toronto Star article a few months back... speaks to the general lack of interest in US OW out there.

To me, it's not. That sounds a little selfish, but it's the truth.

Honestly, there's pretty much no interest in the IRL here. I wouldn't blame TSN for not picking it up, or the IRL for not losing sleep over it.

Is this a little xenophobic ??
US fans get blasted for stating that a lack of US drivers hurt attendance and ratings, yet a Canadian fan feels that if there isn't a Canadian driver there will be no television coverage. Shouldn't they just want to see the race? Or is it all really just the same thing from a different point of view?

Canadians didn't care about the IRL last year when there was a Canadian in the series. It's not like they're abandoning the series, they never showed any interest to begin with.
And from what I can tell, the IRL has done nothing up here to try to build interest in the series.
