These number show a significant upswing in attendance. I am very surprised this has not be mentioned in the Star.

I remember picking grandstand tickets only to wind up with infield bleacher seats. And that was after turning in our order the day after the race.

I bet that was before the over expansion in turns 3-4 in 1993..

Yeah, attendance has dropped, but they still get one heckuva crowd, last year was better, and this year looks to be as well.

Ratings were way up, too, for the first time in a long, long time

I'm not sure I understand this...
2005 was better than 2004, correct? Which would imply 2004 was not sold out?
Was 2004 better or worse than 2003?

What year specifically did the attendance start going down?

What are you basing this year (2006) attendance as looking to be better?

I agree with you that even a decrease in attendance still equals a huge crowd, unrivaled by almost no other event (sporting or otherwise).

Well if you look at the available groups of tickets that i have researched, we have less tickets available in several stands now then what there were the week of the 500.. Also the total amount of tickets available together are less then what they were in Mid-April..

Speaking with someone in the know on this topic (Linda Price) ticket sales are at a pace she hasn't seen for a while. She expects a good year for the 500. I know that must sting for a few here.

It should not sting for anyone who is really into the sport. If it's going to fly, open wheel in the USA, it's got to be involved with the 500. It is the only Iron this sport has in the fire of National and International recognition. And it's not dying.

I always thought the same.Almost no one can tell the difference between the two series,so any good ink the 500 gets helps CC.

In fact both series are virtually interchangeable to the public so good news or bad,it reflects on both series.

MIPS is being replaced by CCWS?

I cannot see how anyone can say that the IRL and CCWS are interchangable.. IRL draws fans to race tracks where CCWS cannot so they have to run mostly street/airports to watch there parades..

IRL has Danica, Hornish, Rice, Wheldon, Kanaan, and Andretti

CCWS has Tracy (for now) and who else?
