  • Miller: Go Back to 1995 (merged)

    www.speedtv.com

Link at the top of the Commentary section. To see why more people are watching Texas Hardtails than either CCWS or the IRL, scroll down to see Debbie Beal first.

Let's put it this way, if Danica were like that, NO ONE would complain of a weight advantage.

Anyway, now that I've hijacked my own thread in its very first post...
"I didn't hear a single comment about airboxes, "carbashians", or how terrible the car looked. I did see dozens and dozens of little kids in awe of the speed and how cool the cars looked. We should learn from our children."

    Here's a link to Miller's piece:
Motorsports coverage includes news, highlights, rankings and more spanning NASCAR, Formula 1, NHRA, ARCA, MotoGP, IndyCar and more auto racing circuits.

    Here's the basic premise:
So the time has come for the only sensible solution to this mind-numbing, ego-fueled, insane standoff.

    It's simple. It's practical. It's worked before.

    Go back to 1995.

The Hulman-George family manages the Indianapolis 500 and Champ Car runs everything else.

    It's good for everyone concerned.
    He makes a good case.

His case is give everything to Kalkhoven and let TG keep the 500. That makes no sense at all.

How come Miller never mentions all the races, teams, promoters, and sponsors that have left Champ Car.

Notice that all of the benefits to having one series that Robin mentions are also attainable if those holdout teams just show up on the Indy Car grid

I doubt the effects would be all that positive.

Also notice that "going back to '95" doesn't mean the '96 boycott couldn't happen all over again - or some other "showdown".

I don't really see the scenario "fixing" anything.

If we were to proceed into the future with one series, one common management / marketing effort, and without the acrimony and vitriolic competition for sponsors and teams, all aligned and in harmony with the success and tradition of Indy, then I could see things being improved.

If only Miller had a flux capacitor to make this possible. More of the same old, same old from RM. Every article that he has written about Indy since 1995 starts with the same flawed premise, that it was CART that made Indy great and not the other way around. He never explains how a bunch of no name F1 dropouts and wannabes from CCWS are going to do anything to benefit Indy, I guess he believes in magic.

                To the Way Back Machine.

Why stop at '95? Might as well go back to '65.

                  And again.

Why would anyone want to give the whole thing to Kalkhovan?Even CC fans don't trust him.

Long live the split,if this is what CC fans and media lackeys think needs to happen.

He never mentions that the split as we know it today is due to Kalkhoven and the other Amigos. CART was dead so why did he continue the split.

He fails to mention that the IRL has in it's plans a cheaper Engine package and nobody knows how much a Champ Car will run in 2007 because one has not been built yet. That this will cause the cost of running in Champ Car to go up, because all new equipment must purchased.

The more Miller writes about the IRL and the less about Champ Car the better I feel about the future of the IRL.

I can not wait till 33 cars line up on the grid.

In reality, I doubt that if they got back together again that that is a serious possibility. I don't think a "merger" would help at all (too late), but I think if they did merge there would be plenty more things to worry about then another split.

How come Miller never talks about why Penske, Andretti, Rahal and all the others went to the IRL. If Champ Car was so great and cheap to run why don't all the ex IRL teams go to Champ Car.

No matter how great a series is teams will always leave. Just ask Nascar how many teams have come and gone in the last 10 years.

To me, it's like RM doesn't care what happens to the sport or the Indy 500 as long as TG gets his comeuppance, as long as TG doesn't "win". Is that not right?

I don't care who "wins", but I think the quickest way back is not through the destruction or diminishment of the Indy 500.

Did you ever wonder how things would be if writers wrote about each series in a good way. Articles from Miller and a few other people have such a negative impact on the fan who has not watched their first Open Wheel Race.

Alot of CC fans have the same mindset.Still, this is just Miller being his TG hating, blinded by CC cash, self.
