Sources have reported to me that after more talks with Chicago city officials, NASCAR’s Chicago Street Course is now set to return for 2024, but not 2025.
I’m also being told NASCAR is 100% committed to bringing Chicagoland Speedway back for the 2025 season.

The good news keeps coming today. Bristol dirt is going away, and now Chicagoland might be back.

They are having a supercross (or whatever it's called) at the track this weekend.

I was glad to see that. I don't think they want to leave the Chicago market and dropping the Chicagoland race was done in hopes of the street race in the future.

I'm not sure I get the logic. Chicago street race was a financial disaster so let's do it one more time to be sure and then go back to a real race track.

The race would be run on a 2.2-mile course north of Roosevelt Road, along Columbus Drive, South DuSable Lake Shore Drive and Michigan Avenue, as far north as Jackson Boulevard.

The first-ever NASCAR Chicago Street Race is in the books, but Mayor Brandon Johnson says that the evaluation process for the event’s future in the city remains ongoing.

"Chicago's contract with NASCAR is scheduled to cover three years and last through 2025. Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, who defeated Lightfoot in the 2023 Chicago mayoral election, stated on July 3, 2023 that the course's future remains under evaluation and that community input is being sought."

Maybe the new mayor can pull a Palou and get out of the contact for the future races.

Not sure the track is coming back for NASCAR. Jason Weigandt (Weege) said Chicagoland told them to do what they wanted
with the track. Grass start, track goes thru the fence. Tear it up - nobody cares.

You could be right. NASCAR says we're coming back and then gets a nice payout from the city of Chicago to go away.

I would be inclined to agree there. I believe their next target is Canada, likely Montreal, so obviously they'd need a date for that.

They have Fontana's date to fill. Speaking of Fontana, have they started construction on that new track yet?

Don't think so. I'll believe it's happening when it's done. The donations link is super creepy and not a good sign towards getting this done. Man, that track was badass!

                            NEXT GEN CALIFORNIA FAQs

WHY IS AUTOCLUBSPEEDWAY.COM REDIRECTING TO A PAGE ON NASCAR.COM?
Auto Club has been a tremendous, longtime partner with our Fontana facility. Their naming rights agreement expired on March 15, 2023, but we look forward to engaging with them on the proposed Next Gen NASCAR short track.

WE HEARD A RUMOR THAT THE SHORT TRACK WILL NEVER HAPPEN. IS THAT TRUE?
Planning continues for a Next Gen NASCAR short track on a portion of the current property NASCAR retained. Pending approvals, more details on this project will be revealed at the appropriate time

WHEN WILL CONSTRUCTION BEGIN ON THE NEW SHORT TRACK?
That is still to be determined. We have multiple approvals that need to take place before pressing forward with our state-of-the-art next-generation NASCAR facility.

WILL THE NEW TRACK BE READY IN TIME FOR THE 2024 SEASON, IF APPROVED?
Unfortunately, it won’t. Even with the most aggressive construction timeline, the proposed track won’t be ready for the 2024 season.

IF IT WON’T BE READY FOR 2024, WHEN WILL THE NEW FACILITY BE READY FOR RACING?
Again, it all boils down to final approval, but we anticipate needing at least an 18-month window to complete the project.

WHAT IS THE TIMELINE FOR THE FUTURE ANNOUNCEMENTS ABOUT THE PROJECT?
NASCAR will share any future announcements at an appropriate time. We encourage fans to click here to sign up for the latest updates.

Somebody on reddit posted a photo of the track taken 3 months ago that shows the track looks like its been abandoned. Seeing how most of the property is now owned by the new deed holder, it remains to be seen when they will start construction. My guess is they are still in the planning stages for both properties and it will be years before you see anything being done.
