Panther has scheduled an auction for late January to sell its extra equipment. The team still hopes to field one car in 2006, if sponsorship can be secured.
Far from dead? Well untill that highlight above changes, it will remain the same.
BTW: if nobody bought Sam Hornishes car for 100K on ebay, how in the heck can one auction off $1.3 million dollars even for an engine lease?

"I don't care either way," Barnes said before leaving Indianapolis. "If he wants to buy it and pay what I want, fine. If not, I'll get it sold some other way.""Is that my *** that I smell burning?" ... Helmet Stogie from "Death spasms of the Mabuchi"

Its too bad. They were a good team. Their latest stuff in the media and the press release have hints of desperation and anger. Its a shame...
Panther will be fielding one team. Take it to the bank. Sponsorship could give them two cars.

It's a little like betting about CCWS teams being on the grid, though. Even if the sponsors aren't there, KK will be, and the car will be on the grid. Same deal here, Tony needs 18 cars and 33 in May, he's going to have to help teams get there if the sponsors aren't stumping up the needed funds.

Barnes and fellow co-owner Doug Boles met with a potential sponsor Wednesday in Indianapolis. Possible deals once considered dead are back in the mix, Boles said.
"A lot's changed in the past 72 hours," Boles said prior to the Wednesday presentation. "We're doing everything we can. Hopefully, we can make this work."
IRL engines will cost about 25 percent less next season. By 2007, the cost will be halved from 2005 levels, according to details provided Thursday by Honda officials, who will supply all teams starting in '06."Each day well lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness and every tomorrow a vision of hope. Look well therefore to this one day for it, and it alone, is life"

T13: " alot has changed"
That they have. Honda is the sole supplier. Thats a big change no denying that.
Cost? Its still in the $1.3 million dollar range - just to get a motor, a motor thats "randomly drawn" by the league, let alone to cover all the rest of the cost's for everything else associated by runing a team.
"A lot has changed" came from a reduction in engine leasing with Honda. Those commitments still cost $1.3 million for 2006 vs. 1.8 mill in 2005.
It sounds good and genuine from Panther but lets be honest, there are minimum employee's left at the shop and they are Ebaying epuipment, in Johns words "just to make payroll".
Theres a loooong way to go. I like John, I hope he can put it together, but unfortunatly, the impossible hill to climb just may be that.
