I meant to pick up on the 300,000 number too. Figured the AZ Republic has added CCWS attendance counters to it's staff.

Doubt very seriously there was 300,000 . . . . but there was enough to get them to build a new grandstand.

        300,000 is the new 200,000.

Having 200k at an event just doesn't say "big crowd" like "300,000"

In the Sporting News this past week, their preview for Phoenix listed the permanent seats for PIR at just under 76,000.

            Hmmmm.

            300,000 people / 30,000 cars = Big cars.

              Damn, beat me to it.

But the economic boost isn't enough to console drivers who have to sit through traffic tangles as 30,000 cars pump through the southwest Valley.

Does the police car carrying Kurt Busch count?

                    LOL

I stopped at the scanner trailer on my way out of PIR... and two people on Segways rode up to drop off their rented scanners...

                    Neither was TG.

I don't think that's accurate. According to the track's website, they had 65,000 seats in '96 and they've added a ton since then. I _think_ they are close 90,000 now with another 14,000 on the way.

either way, well short of 300,000.

                          Might be the "three-day total."
