I wonder who wrote these entries for the web encyclopedia?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indy_Racing_League

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Champ_cars

And why there is a column for "Controversy" in the Indycar section but not for the other? Note also there's a link to ChampCarFanatics in the CCWS page but no link to Trackforum for the IRL section.

Seems to me if someone is defining the two series for an encyclopedia that we should know who is doing the defining.

I saw that the other day when I looked up Tony George on Wikipedia.

A while back I had edited the Tony George article to correct some false information (his birthday was wrong and some other little details) and it was only a small stub article, but apparently someone has updated it and made it very biased and linked it to the biased IRL and CART entires as well.

anyone can update the wiki content - and when they get into silly flame wars like those noted - there is a process to address it through wiki

Bingo. I write for Wiki off and on (nothing racing related). All you have to do is fire them a submission saying "hey, include TrackForum on the IRL links section" and there ya go. You want to add some notes on ChampCar, for whatever 'evils' they stand for or endorse? Fire a submission off.

If you don't like it, there's a button labelled "edit" right there on the page. You, or anyone else in the world, can change the entry to say whatever you like. You don't need to ask permission from anyone, or submit anything to some authority. It probably won't stay up long, but you can edit the Champ Car entry to say "Champ Car is teh suck" or put "TG is an itiod" in the IRL entry if you like. Bitching about the content of a Wiki article is pointless.

Ah yes...that Great Source of Information/Piece of Crap called wikipedia.

I've been working on it for a while now, worked on several of the race summaries on the Indianapolis 500 page, filled in a couple of holes here and there, worked on several other race pages, other sports, etc.

However the "piece of crap" comes to bite you when Joe-Idiot decides to revert your changes back to his because that page is "His Baby." People seems to take over specific pages, act like they own them, and like a troll, delete anything they didn't write. There's a whole community of wiki-idiots that think they wiki-own every wiki-freaking-page and if you wiki-think you're going to wiki-change their wiki page, you've got another wiki-thing coming.

At first I got peeved, then decided to quit editing pages that weren't simply "stat oriented" content. Easy way to check is to click "history" and if you see hundreds of edits, you know people have set up camp on that page. If there's little or no history to the page, you know it's pretty much a loner, with no regular editors.

Hopefully someone who knows it's not "Whikipedia."

So change it. It would have taken less time than running here to whinge about it.
