Plus over 4.8 million watching the Cup race on tv!

NBC's broadcast of Sunday's Dickies 500 at Texas Motor Speedway earned an overnight Nielsen Media Research rating of 4.4 and an 8 share in the nation's largest markets, Street & Smith's SportsBusiness Daily reports. The Texas race is new to the schedule, but the rating is 2.3% higher than the 4.3 overnight rating NBC drew for last year's 34th Nextel Cup race, the Checker Auto Parts 500 at Phoenix International Raceway.(NASCAR Scene Daily Newsletter)(11-8-2005)

Nothing to be ashamed of with those numbers...for any series.

The seating for Texas is 150K. I'm guessing the other 45K was infield? Its so hard to tell with all hte campers and semis.

From the Dallas Morning News article linked above:

TMS has 155,000 seats, but the attendance numbers include infield campers, luxury suites, Turn 2 condo residents and people watching in the Speedway Club building in Turn 1. The enormous frontstretch grandstand was almost filled to capacity Sunday, but the 30,000-seat backstretch had 5,000 to 10,000 empty seats.

The 195K quoted attendance is reasonable. The new Texas II is safe.

The front stretch was about 90% full for the IRL race, but infield was pretty bare, and no backstright. Only the last section around turn 4 was empty on the front. I think the IRL was a little over 100k, so about like a Bush race.

            Pretty good, considering.
