  • IRL title sponsor?

    Says Robin:

Georgia Pacific is leaving Kyle Petty's NASCAR team and talking with the IRL about a possible title sponsorship.
FWIW, Jayski says G-P has an announcement at the Atlanta NASCAR race and is speculation is that G-P is signing on with Hendrick. Could they do both? I suppose so but that seems unlikely.

FWIW2, a year ago I heard a strong rumor that a title sponsor was coming on board. It was not G-P.....

FWIW3, TSO is also reporting that the IRL has made a solid pitch to a title sponsor and are somewhat confident but they did not name the company.

If Robin says it, we know it is not true. He is a slim-ball paid by CCWS.

I've heard Robin called many things, but this must be the first time he's been accused of being "slim."

Wasn't this announced a couple years ago at Indy Jim?

That's when Wilke was saying IRL was going to announce the new title sponsor. However, I believe they have delayed the announcement so as not to cause a distraction to the teams.

AS much as I would like to believe the possibility of a Title Sponsor (one of the essential elements for promotional success), I suspect the more truthful bit deals with dropping Kyle Petty. That would have to be a low profile sponsorship.

Why is Robin making this up? Common, we know it's not true.

It is interesting that Miller does not preface his comments as rumor has it. I suspect it is entirely possible that the IRL is talking to GP. Talking and dealing are two very different things. I talk to people all the time. I do business with only a few.

However, I just passed the speedway and noticed that they are sheathing the entire grandstand sections along 16th Street with 4x8 sheets of plywood. By God, the rumor may be true!

A title sponsorship doesn't seem to make a lot of sense for G-P...........but I wonder if the folks at ABC Supply have been talking with them?

Maybe G-P should sponsor Robin, he could use their toilet paper to wipe all of that stuff off the wall that he keeps flinging at it.

If they’re handing out free sheets of plywood, I’m there

I thought ABC are wholesalers ? What percentage of IRL race attendees or TV watchers are professional contractors?

I heard later that the sponsor changed their mind and decided to sponsor American Spirit Racing and will announce at Ansan.

Well then, it looks like you (or your "source") was wrong about those two as well.
