Does this mean that CART's firm seeking out a buyer actually contacted the IRL to see if they were interested?

That would seem logical to me.

If I were B&S, I would contact the IRL and NASCAR just to preclude the possibility of future litigation that I was not exercising due diligence.

How's about, "Newly named NASCAR Chief, Brian France, contacted the IRL in effort to negotiate a multi year partnership deal between the two leagues." I could imagine all the gorgeous company color schemes on the IndyCars.
