You'll find it RIGHT HERE, the contribution of still another 'new' member apparently trying to paint the IRL in a bad light as a means to deal with the collapse of c^rt.

When you look at the ratings .8 or 1.1 both seem low and there doesn't seem to be a big difference.

However, according to the article, 800K watched the IRL race and 1.2 million watched the ALMS race. That means 50% more people that are race fans would rather watch an endurance road race than watch a side by side by side 220mph + Indycar oval race.

It just doesn't seem to make any sense? What is the reason for that?

Perhaps road-racing fans are interested enough in the ALMS to get out and watch it, while oval-racing fans are going "ho-hum" about the IRL.

It certainly can't be that there are more road-racing fans in the US than oval-racing fans...

Or maybe it's just that the IRL has a large fan crossover with football, and everyone was watching the opening day games instead of Chicagoland.

Or it could simply be a weird statistical anomaly. Hard to tell, since ALMS doesn't have any more network races.

Perhaps people tuned into NBC to watch a race on a Sunday afternoon, and with no NASCAR, just watched what was on.

wheel-nut's right though! It is pathetic when ALMS draws better ratings! It's also been discussed countless times but good point.

I wonder what the ratings were for the last CART race?

Needless to say, pointing out weaknesses can be good for the series. What is bad is when people wish harm on drivers because they race in the IRL. Pointing out attendance or TV ratings is harmless. In fact knowing where the IRL can improve is worth discussing. No harm in that at all!!!
