  • Elton John or Eve 6

With Motorock set to begin promotion with C^RT next year, if plans go as rumored, there will be concerts tied to all or most events. The first announced performer for them is Elton John at St. Pete. This weekend the IRL will have a concert by Eve 6.

These are not new ideas there have been musical acts performing with racing events for more than a couple years. IMS has a stage set up the entire month of May with acts on it at various times. IMS has seemed to lean toward Alternative to Country a couple past bands I remember are Smash Mouth and Wynonna

Which would be the prefered style of music for the members here?

Honestly I prefer neither. I probably won't like any band that performs at a race I'm at next year.

The problem with geezer acts is that the vast majority of them are living off the past.

OTOH, the kids today are more interested in The Fast & The Furious than actual racing.

I think it would be interesting if CART managed to get Clear Channel Entertainment involved... as much as I abhor them, they bring a lot of marketing might just on sheer numbers.

Would it be possible to have multiple acts in multiple locations around the course at the same time?

An all of the above type answer?

          FYI---

Motorock is the new sponsor for the TransAm Series not C^RT. Reference SpeedNews broadcast from Monday, 1 September.

BTW, Elton John currently has the number 1 single in the UK...OK, with an old record, but still...

Funny isn't it... Barry Manilow sells out STILL. New bands may or may not.

              Maybe... it's scary, not funny.
If it doesn't have wings... It isn't worth talking about!

I resemble that remark, but I don't live in the past and anyone that knows me will attest to that, but I do think you are correct.

I like to "rock," and I like to race, together or seperatly, but I don't like music as a hook, attracting people to a race for all the wrong reasons.

Marshall Crenshaw. That'll pack the fans in.

He could play a medley of his hit.

Marshall Crenshaw wrote 'Til I Hear it From You,' a hit for the Goo-Goo Dolls. I assume they played it when the appeared at the CART race at Long Beach.

Marshall Crenshaw is, in my opinion, the most overlooked and underrated musician in history. Absolutely tragic the way he has been passed over. Shoulda been as big a star as, well, the Eagles or Fleetwood Mac. Sad.

It's either the Beastie Boys or Merle Haggard for me.

If they did a song together... I imagine you'd be quite pleased.

Unless it's The Replacements getting back together (yeah, right, in some fantasy world) forget it.

I like my tenderloins large, my beer cold, and none of that annoying "mood music."

You know, though, they could do it like Saturday Night Live. Halfway through the race pull everybody into the pits, get the leader out of their car, and tell the audience "and now our musical guest...insert name here."

On second thought, just stick with the racing.
Chicago Blackhawks done didn't do it again!

What makes the motorock deal distinct from what we usually see is that MotoRock has a seperate admission charge for Elton John (although it sounds like there will be some sort of premium package that involves a VIP area at the track, and tickets to the concert)

All of the other deals have been a concert at the track itsself to entertain the fans during downtime. The problem with that is that you're not going to get a "hot" band (or at least one with a significant fanbase) to play in the infield after practice is done for the day. Those bands cost a lot, and I don't think anybody would pay more for a race ticket to cover the cost of a concert they don't want to see.

At least MotoRock seperates the cost of the race from the cost of the show.
