Please refewrence the bottom line in the chart above for each Cheever and Scheckter. Who was leading, of the two, in the points, and by a significant margin? Now again, who was beating whom?

Racing is about more than speed.

OK, let's compare Rice to Cheever. Keep in mind Eddie has VASTLY more experience in open wheeled cars than Buddy - I think he's been driving open wheel cars longer than Buddy has been alive.

      Michigan
Rice - Start 2, Finish 2, should have won. Led 15 laps. Keep in mind, this was his first IRL start.
Cheever - Start 3, crashed out in a one car accident, finished 22nd. Never contended.

      Kentucky
      Rice: Start 6, Finish 12
      Cheever: Start 7, Finish 11

      Gateway
      Rice: Start 15, Finish 4
Cheever: Start 18, Finish 10 - two laps down

      Chicago:
Rice: Start 2, Finish 9. Led 22 laps
      Cheever: Start 6, Finish 5.

      Texas 2:
      Rice: Start 4, Finish 6.
Cheever: Start 5, Finish 8 - one lap down.

Rice: Led 37 laps in first five IRL starts. Outqualified Eddie in all five races. Finished on lead lap in all five races.
Cheever: Led 0 laps and finished ahead of Buddy in two out of five races. Only finished two races on lead lap.

I don't care if you're still involved with the team - Eddie's best days are behind him, and if you paired him with Buddy Rice, he wouldn't even be the best driver on his own team. Last season proved this.

Doesn't sound pretty, but it's the truth.

I mean, would you rather be teaching an old guy to be fast or a young guy to stop wrecking?

Despite his record of hitting everything but the lottery, Scheckter has a ride for 2003.

I don't think people are beating down Eddie's door to get him to drive for them. I don't think Eddie would even have a ride if he wasn't the car owner.

I recall the story I was told about Eddie being upset that Scheckter was faster than he was. He had the crew put Tomas' setup on his car - and promptly went SLOWER with Tomas' setup than he was going with his own.
