  • Patrick racing speaks about IRL

Check out the words of Jim McGee
    and Paul
    ."

"I love Phoenix, Michigan, Fontana but look what the fans are telling Tony George," said Jim McGee, president of Patrick Racing who is in his fifth decade of Champ Car racing. "They're telling him they don't want Homestead, Nazareth, Phoenix, St. Louis and Michigan.

"We all want to run ovals but not at the expense of putting yourself out of business."

Paul Tracy has excelled on all disciplines during his 13 seasons but understands the change in priorities.

"There's a lot of stuff going on at street races. Concerts, volleyball, beer gardens, pretty women," said Tracy. "And it's easier for people to get in and out of the track.

    "

That attitude is why CART is where they are today!

I think it may a tad too soon to write of Michigan, among others.

I don't want them and the IRL doesn't need them.

Concerts? I go to races for the racing not the music.

Volleyball? Whoa theres a big draw....in Beijing China

Pretty women? Yup theyre at street races. And superspeedway races and cookie cutters and the dirt track Im at every Saturday

I'll take 200 laps around Phoenix over 80 laps around any city circuit

Judging from the pre race crowd at Nasville I'd say quite few would disagree with that statement.

"I love Phoenix, Michigan, Fontana but look what the fans are telling Tony George,..."

Uhhhhhh, let me get this straight. CART's very existence is in doubt and these marketing mavens are giving advice to Tony George?

              Ya think??

you're dead right KO, who could even think about advising the man who has ruled over the popularity downfall of the Indy 500?

                  Oh, I forgot.

                  It's all Tony George's fault.

That idea is not only wrong, but stupid and simplistic.

                    No

it's what I've witnessed at the track KO.

I'm there every day during the month of May racefan and even at my advanced age I can still see for myself.

This could be a great thing for the IRL. Let those CART guys run their road races and the IRL stick to ovals. Everyone would be happy. Save the IRL!

I didn't dispute that the 500 isn't as "popular" as it used to be.

                        Big difference.

who was the man at the helm during the decline?

Gonna blame it on Joe Cloutier?

No bashing here KO, just wondering where you think the buck stops.

Don't back up now. It's clear at least to me that you lay at the feet of Tony George any and all blame for whatever you percieve as problems with the Indy 500.

You agree on the loss of popularity

Does the buck stop at the top?

You call it a simplistic bash

I see it as a calling for accountability
