As an IRL fan, I wonder if others like me have thought about what would happen in the IRL if CART were unable to finish the season.
Would we see a number of CART drivers chase seats bringing $ with them?
Would present owners buy out the weaker IRL teams?
Would there be a major disruption of teams, drivers?
    Chicken Little?

I don't think anything would happen this year. After that.....?

Remember how much CARTfare it took to put a series on the track this year. There aren't that many teams/drivers with money to bring - and Players is dropping out after this year.

        Here's my W.A.G.---

        Fernandez/Tecate (1)- Likely.

Rocketsports/Johnson Controls(1)- Likely. Paul and Tony are on good terms.

        Mi-Jack/ Conquest(1)- Likely.

Newman Haas(2)- Hass alone, or maybe they'd both retire. They are both nearing 80 freaking years old. I could see Paul Newman going sportscar racing again. Owning, not driving....

        Rahal/ Gigante(1) - Maybe?

        Walker(2) - hmmmmm.... No.

        ASTJ(2)- No.

        PKR(1) - Maybe.

        Forsythe(2) - Maybe.

Coyne (2)- Hah Hah Hah Hah....

Herdez Competition(2) - I could see that. I've read that Merle Bettenhausen still owns a portion of the team. (Correct me if I am wrong)

        Patrick/Visteon (1)- Maybe? He's old too.

        Fittipaldi/Dingman(1) - No.
        Rest in Peace, Miles Nelson

If there is no CART next year, I think the Coyne Rental Agency might go into business in the IRL. Why not?

No, they would not come over in mass, these people don't have to race, they would have to buy a bunck of equipment and all three engine manufacturers wouldn't be able to support them this late in the season. Yes, I know the rule, it would be moot, not one team would come. Heck, 70% of them are running on Pook's dime, if that is gone, they are too. Nope, no Jimmy and Ryan cars for IndyCar. As foe Coyne, I thought he was awful when he tried to run Indy, he exceeds awful now in CART

..70% of them are running on Pook's dime...
It's the other "30%" (give or take) I would content that would come.

Fernandez and Rahal already have IRL programs and already are engine customers. They need another chassis and some support equipment.

You don't think the IRL and thier respective engine suppliers would say "No Problem" to them if they wanted to "expand" to a 2 car effort?

That is of course, if thier sponsors wanna be there.

I certainly wouldn't expect them to come over THIS season.

              Next, however, is another matter.
