  • NASCAR ratings up again

Talladega Cup ratings went up from 5.1 in 2007 to 5.2 in 2008.

Talladega Nationwide ratings went up from 2.1 in 2007 to 2.3 in 2008.

The juggernaut just rolls on, with no end in sight. No matter how many want to pretend that it is on the decline.

BTW, the one Nationwide race at Talledega this past weekend, got a better rating then the entire IRL season has gotten combined (Homestead, St. Pete, Motegi and Kansas) in 2008. Yikes.

And, people complain when the Indy Car races get moved or disrespected? They don't have enough people that watch or care to have a valid complaint.
IRL 2009: "Cars you can't see, driven by drivers you have never heard of, on a network you don't get"

"I'd hire your grandmother, if she brought a budget"- Bankrupt Indy Car team owner Tyler Tadevic, to Curt Cavin in December, on the tough standards he looks for when "hiring" driver talent.

Curiously, the ratings for the Mexico City NNC race have never been released. Maybe racing outside the US ain't such a hot idea.

I think Indycar races are almost unwatchable for the non-diehard fans. It takes a lot of effort even to figure out what channel they are on. It would be interesting to see how much NASCAR ratings would drop if they had to listen to Scotty Goodyear and Brieanne Pedigo every week and commercials every 90 seconds.

Yes, the combination of a product filled with a vast majority of drivers no one cares about or have ever heard of with the embarrassment that is Disney's broadcast team added to the black hole of Motegi equals the sad ratings the sport has.

The product needs a complete overhaul and a much closer link to its original roots driver-wise (pre 1979) and a complete blow up of the TV team to even have a chance of ever being sorta popular again in this country.

Otherwise, its never going to work. Its painfully obvious, that "reunification" hasn't captured America's fancy (and was never much of a issue with the lack of popularity with people in this country).

Spot on. Goodyear needs to go first IMO. Sure he's a former driver, but he's got all the personality of my pencil.

Oh and good for NASCAR. That means they're even or up at all but the Texas race this year. And up overall year over year. The skid has definitely stopped and started to reverse.

You are in bad need of a more exciting pencil!

You're not being very fair to your pencil.

Producing a product that your customers enjoy looks like a good thing

ALMS is doing likewise this year.

I watched a few minutes of that "race" last night on the tivo... and I must say, that was absolutely horrible.

I admit I went into Sunday looking to watch Talladega. The first Cup race since Daytona.

No sooner do I tune in and I see DW boogity-ing on the stage with some country singer.

And people say Scott Goodyear makes for horrific television.

                        Needless to say......-Click-

Indeed, the WWE strategy is still working.

Seems to be working better then whatever non-strategy AOW has used the past 15 years or so.

Maybe if some folks in AOW had a clue, they'd see that NASCAR's "strategy" is pretty darned smart and Indy Car's "strategy" is pretty darned stupid. Hence, the 5.2 for one, and the .nothing for the other.

Either that or, those people making up the 5.2 group are just brainwashed and only there because of the marketing.

I thought it was a good race, for whatever that's worth.

I'll propose a radical theory: When the racing is good, if not every week than most weeks, than in general the ratings will be in the upslope.

It's been a more interesting year than last year, that's for sure.

How about that save from Kyle Busch with about 40 laps or so to go? I've never a seen a stock car more sideways that didn't wreck. Good thing he kept some semblance of control over it, or it would have been a huge wreck, and not nearly as happy an outcome for Kyle.
