Well as we know they like to take credit for all things IndyCar so today should not have surprised me. But it sure did tick me off. the one guy said that NASCAR racing at Bristol has been compared to "fighter jets in a gymnasium" Funny I always thought that Eddie Cheever said that about IndyCars at Richmond. Can those hacks steal anything else from us?

After so many years in the sport, there are plenty of Dick Trickle track stories, and some of them are even publishable on-line. He has largely been credited with originating the archetypal description of short track racing, likening it to flying jet fighters in a gymnasium.
And from this article, here is a .wav file of him saying it:
On Edit: Actually, that sounds like Benny Parsons saying the quote and Jenkens is attributing it to Trickle. Another quote attributing it to Trickle:
The USA Modified Series will see double duty this Fourth of July weekend. First on tap, Saturday, July 1st, will be the Ed Martin 50 at the famed quarter mile high banks of Anderson Speedway, Anderson IN. This high speed little race track has always been a thriller for fans and competitors alike. The legendary Dick Trickle was once quoted as saying Anderson is like racing “Jet fighters in a Gymnasium!”

Not like there was anything else to watch. And after a half hour I took a nap. I guess I stand corrected as to the author of the quote, and therefore make this thread completely useless. Now onto testing this week.Skypigeon "If you're not on the bus, don't whine about the direction it's going."
