  • Semi OT - but mentions Ashley Judd...

From my brother's "weekly reader" that he distributes to the "Inner Circle":

"Just some weekly blabber from me. Comment if you like, or just delete.
    8/27/02

Do we really want our future QB to be a scrambling, broken play specialist, flushing himself out of the pocket so he can high step
around linebackers and throw ducks that get picked, or do we want someone who can sit in the pocket and throw strikes to our talented
    receivers? (Cowboys)

A-Rod is worth the $ paid for him. Not only is he leading the AL in BA, RBI but also HR. Plus he was ripping bombs off of El Duque, Petite and Clemens!

Dollars or not, I have a hard time understanding why UNT (North Texas) would
travel to Austin for a 70 point stomping to start the season off. (UT)

Same with Arkansas St going to Blacksburg to play Va Tech? How do you build the nucleus of a young football team by getting 70 points dropped on you and embarrassed on ESPN to start your season?

Chris Pook made a comment that he really wants to run in Chicago and REALLY wants to come back to Texas. Speaking from the Texas court, that is probably a bad idea. CART gave all open wheel a black eye when they
cancelled here in Texas. Most Rednecks hardly know there are two circuits. It will be interesting to see if Eddie Gossage (TMS GM) will entertain CART here. (Have they settled yet??)

And, TMS is by far the best place to watch IRL race, as far as competitivness and action. Here SEPT 15!! I got 10 free tix for those interested. Of course you wouldn't even know the IRL was here in Big D, as my Cowboys are getting spanked by the Titans that day. Interesting to see which draws
    more people???

Officially the "7 & 7" has replaced the "Bloody Mary" as the breakfast of
champions. After 1.5 liters of it, you can still hit 300 yard drives, provided the ice doesn't melt and spill all over your golf cart.

I read an article urging Pat Ewing and Hakeem Olajuwan (The two most deadly “turn around j’s in the 90's) to retire from hoops. I hate to say it, but I agree. It’s hard to watch people you remember being rookies, and in college, retiring because they are too old.

I don't want to offend anybody or get political, but are slave reparations a step forward in uniting the US, or further dividing the races? Did large companies in the 1800's profit from free labor? Yes.
Should my taxes go towards paying descendents of an event two generations ago? No. And why wont Hillary Clinton say "I am
for, or against it"? Take a stand.

I side with the owners on the baseball thing. I would play MLB for $50K a year if I could.

Before you buy your new driver, make sure the USGA says its OK. New rules go back on what they ruled earlier in the year. I would hate to be the small golf shop owner who ordered 500 of these only to find out no
    one wants them.

I know this is old, but would you subject American troops on peace keeping UN missions to a World Court? No way! If our boys are saving your country’s *** , you will not throw them in some Turkish jail for shooting a suicide bomber before he actually kills 20 people on their way to church. Stick to your guns Bush.

Saw Lenny Kravitz, and I am pretty sure that he lip sinks live. I have heard good singers, but hitting every note is impossible in concert. Still a good show with lots of 19 yr olds. $8 for a Coors light is hardly worth the 30 minute wait to get it at Smirinoff.

Going back to the age thing with Ewing and Hakeem. Looks like the days of Sampras, Agassi, Courier are gone. Now we have a new set of Gen Y American stars in Roddick and Blake. Lets see how they do in NY this
    week.

Kournikova was booed off the court for having more unforced errors than kills in this week’s US Open. How could you boo her?

Do what ever you can to renew your Texas license on line. I was in line for literally 1.5 hours yesterday, just to get a renewal. City of Dallas had two clerks working the DL renewal office. I sure am glad we had to cut city jobs because of a budget bust of $85 million, AA center sure is nice!! Nothing like giving Tom Hicks and Mark Cuban $43 million in Tax abatements.

    Questions of the week:

Who is hotter? Alyssa Milano or Ashley Judd

    Hypothetical of the week:

For $495,000 cash, would you cut off your pinky and ring finger on your
    good hand?"

He added some "race commentary" he had written so I could post it here.

Clairification...would this be a taxable event? I'm assuming since you say "cash" it would be non-taxable.

In the long run, what's 2 fingers, heck, ya got 8 more...

As great as A-Rod is, he does not lead the league in Batting Average.

I believe the IRS considers a CASH transaction taxable as it is income. You aren't thinking of wilfully deceiving our government by not reporting this windfall. However painfully you gained this money, I believe Uncle Sam will still want his, and they don't take "fingers".
We flipped our finger to the King of England

The Texas race will draw at least 50% more people than the Cowboys game, and get about 5% of the news coverage.

Why would Anna Kournikova get booed? Because she is popular for her looks and not for good tennis playing.

                          Here's the USGA announcement...

                          USGA announcement

Basically, what the USGA is doing is similar to what Pook did with the 3.5 engines.

They announced in May a set of rules that they planned to implement dealing with the "spring-effect" off the face of a Driver. After this announcement, many retailers started buying previously illegal clubs, which had high spring rates, to sell to the public, because according to the USGA, they would now be considered legal. Sometime in July, the USGA flip-flopped (this is not the first time they have done this), and announced that the Driver specs they had just announced would be considered legal, would now in fact be illegal.

Therefore, many of these "mom and pop" golf stores had bought inventory to sell assuming it would be considered legal, and then the USGA changes their mind, and this inventory is seriously devalued.

Back last December, the USGA announced plans to limit Driver size to a max of 380cc's. I had been playing (and winning) with a previously legal 450cc Driver for over a year. With this announcement, I had to scrap my old driver and find a new one in time for a tourney I had in January (costing me roughly $400). The manufacturers went crazy, as the had all spent considerable time on R&D and marketing for clubs that had been legal, and which the USGA now deemed illegal. The USGA changed their mind in January, going back on their previous rule.

Meanwhile, I had spent $400 for a club I used once.

Thanks USGA. Management almost as bad as CART's.

It would figure they'd want to run at TMS. Hit the IRL in one of its most popular backyards.

As a Kentucky boy, I hate to say this, but Alyssa is hotter.
