  • Car audio questions

When it became clear that my wife's car was going to be our vacation car I put a new audio/video system in my suburban, including amps & sub-woofer in the trunk area. Now that my wife's crashed her car I need to take my car on spring break.

Am I safe stacking suitcases, etc, on top of the amps or do they need to breathe? If they need to breathe does anybody have any suggestions for what I can put over them that will hold the luggage?

    Thanks.

How far are you going TD? IMO, they won't get "Hot Enough" to hurt them over a series of trip STOPS! However, whenver you get the opportunity to, let them breathe and cool off a bit. POUR COLD ICEWATER OVER THEM!!! No but seriously, if you're driving to like Florida or someplace like that, you're going to have to stop and get gas etc. which SHOULD allow them to cool somewhat to where they won't hurt themselves. Another suggestion if you're REALLY concerned about it is.....before you start stacking luggage on top of the storage area, take a small block of wood and put it in between so the storage door can't close ALL the way. That'll allow some air into them and when you stack the luggage, make SURE that you leave an area....maybe on the side or at the very back of the storage bin, so that it's CLEAR and air can get into them. I honestly don't think that you'll hurt them though. Those things are tougher than you think.
        But that's just my opinion!

Thanks, jet. That's what I was wondering...should I put together a little shelf above them? Might have to do that.

As to how far: 16 hour drive (1,000 miles) Never more than 8-9 hours in a day.

You'll be fine....especially if you do like you're thinking of doing.
