  • Steeler free agents

Just noticed this in a story

    ---

Eleven players can become unrestricted free agents, including Antwaan Randle El, who threw the first Super Bowl touchdown pass by a wide receiver; defensive end Kimo von Oelhoffen, cornerback Deshea Townsend, safety Chris Hope, backup quarterback Charlie Batch and running back Verron Haynes. Starting cornerback Ike Taylor is a restricted free agent.

    ---

Sure would like to see Randle El with the Colts

Since the Colts are likely to lose Edge, maybe some kind of "sign and trade" could be worked out, would have to include multiple players due to salary differences but would include Randle El to Indy and Edge to Pittsburgh

The result could be either it becomes easier to keep Wayne, thanks to losing Edge's salary, or Wayne could become expendable to bring in a new RB.

If the Colts keep Stokley and Walters, adding Randle El definitely would make Wayne expendable.

If I was Randle El I would think a lot about leaving Pittsburgh right now but if the Colts have to lose Edge bringing in a multiple threat player like Randle El would be nice.

    Darn!

I was hoping that Casey Hampton was a free agent.

The Browns sure could use him in their 3-4.

The Bears are supposedly salivating over Randle El.

Think he can look at what the Bears did for Muhsin Muhammad and see what a dangerous move that could be. Muhammad's stats basically were cut in half in one year.

As much as I'd love to see Randle El in Colts' colors I would hate to see him go to a team that wouldn't use his many talents. Pittsburgh is a perfect fit for him.

Pittsburgh isn't a bad fit, but I think he's actually a bit under-utilized. A playmaker like Antwaan should get more than 50 touches in a season.

Valid point but that's not what I'm talking about.

Do you think he'd ever throw a pass in a Colts' uniform? I don't.

That's true. I don't think Holt and Harrison could put up good numbers with Kyle Orton under center.

I agree the Colts would be a terrible fit. If the Bears would be creative though, he might fit in very well there. He is their #1 target in free agency.

Agreed but it should be different with a healthy Rex Grossman in place.

Mushin, the league leader in drops, could help himself and his team and put his crawling TD act away and just catch the damn ball.

                        Between he and Steve Smith,

You really get an appreciation for the way Jim Brown, Emmitt Smith, Eric Dickerson, and Sweetness played the game.

What irks me (maybe its too soon for the truth), DW was a 16-oval WIN specialist, yet the vast majority those boohooing for him, hardcarders & fans, alike are the same ones trying to kill anything with more than 9 deg banking & 4 corners, where Dan ultimately made his home...

IF the Bears would sign Randle-El, the receiving corps would look mighty impressive:

                          Muhsin
Justin Gage - reliable, tall possession WR
                          Bernard Berrian - speed guy
Mark Bradley - speed - hurt just as he was coming on
                          Randle-El

IMO, the Bears better get themselves a TE who's an offensive threat. How Desmond Clark made the Pro Bowl as a reserve is beyond me. They never throw him the ball (rightfully so.)

From Truth Detector, above: "Do you think he'd ever throw a pass in a Colts' uniform? I don't."

Well, considering how the Colt QB perfromed in his last game, I think you would see it. Or maybe the Giants could use him too, since little brother is a carbon copy of big brother. Especially in games that are on the line. Talk about choking!
