Didn't know much about the man but I loved listening to him sing.

Oh no. I just saw an ad for his telethon and was looking forward to it. Through one of those strange twists of life, he and my wife became good friends (she swears that's all) back in the '80s, he knew someone she worked for, that kind of thing. I never met him.
Apparently he was a true gentleman and a kind human being.
Sad news, now I have to tell her.

I had an artsy art appreciation teacher who loved to play Lou during classtime---that's where I first heard the term, 'The eagle flies on Friday.'
The man oozed class."The secret of life is honesty and fair dealing. If you can fake that, you've got it made."

"With Luther Vandross and Lou Rawls gone who is going to record music to listen to when we want to make-out with a chick?"
Here you go."Foyt's mere presence is a punch in the face, an inoculation against milquestoast corporatism. There wasn't a car anywhere anyhow anytime that Foyt wouldn't put the boot to, and there hasn't been a race devised he couldn't win."
