Checking the facts behind the hype. I hadn't heard of most of these scares, but then again I tend to stay away from a lot of that media.

Rev, I'm usually the first to agree that we have a media hype problem in this country, but I do think we have issues with meth--specifically here in the midwest. Maybe they've just stepped up their efforts to find labs because of the hype, but they seem to be finding and shutting down a lot of meth labs here in Central Indiana.BRAWNDO - THE THIRST MUTILATOR...IT'S GOT WHAT PLANTS CRAVE!

Good article, revealing the evil behind relying too much on numbers and statistics for one's opinions.
I deal with that at work every day, on a different level. On one hand, here's me and my fellow QA here telling people "don't worry about numbers, just serve your customer and they'll take care of themselves;" and there's their supervisors saying "you need to bring these numbers up; you need to bring these numbers down." Their supervisors have more of an immediate impact on their jobs than we do, so the subconscious message is "numbers are more important than quality." So some people, to make their numbers better, take shortcuts on service (and ultimately make it harder on everybody), but what do they care? Their numbers are good; "that's all that matters." I've had people tell me as much. Depressing..."I didn't hear a single comment about airboxes, "carbashians", or how terrible the car looked. I did see dozens and dozens of little kids in awe of the speed and how cool the cars looked. We should learn from our children."
