  • Far Side cartoon

One of my favorite Gary Larson creations is the one that shows the farmer holding an axe and looking for a turkey to kill. In the foreground is a bunch of turkeys including one that has an incredibly long neck.

Can anybody find a link to that cartoon panel on-line?

    Thanks.

The Farside syndicator aggressively protects its copyright

This link explains why Farside cartoons are nearly impossible to find on the web.

Love Farside...One of my favorites is where a saddled horse is bashed into a tree and a group of dorky looking boys looking at the "wrecked" horse. Caption reads..."What are you going to tell your Dad?"

Also a favorite is a "family" of tape worms standing looking out over a tongue and set of teeth from inside the back of a mouth.
      Caption reads..."Tapeworms on Vacation"

Gary Larson is hilarious and one of a kind. Wish he'd start creating cartoons again.

          2 of my favorites:
          "bummer of a birthmark, Hal"
"objects in mirror are closer than they appear."

I heard Larson say in an interview one time that as a child he was frequently locked in a closet as punishment by his parents.

No wonder that many of his classics are disturbing as well as funny.

My fav shows a couple of polar bears breaking into an igloo. One turns to the other and says "I love these things. Hard and crunchy on the outside with a soft chewy center."

              Two of my favs are...

"The Elephant Man meets the Buffalo Gal"

and the one where two juvenile gorillas are in the school locker room looking at a mature one

The object in mirror closer than they appear is a good one. All you can see in the mirror is a big bloodshot eye...

                  Three I liked:

The dog leaning out the window as the car goes down the street. Points and yells at the other dogs "Ha-ha-ha! I'm going to the vets to get TUTORED!"

Caption: "Inside the wiener dog factory - shipping department" Shows a lady slipping a dachsund into a round cardboard mailing tube.

Two guys in a castle under siege, carrying a soldier away who has his pants down and several arrows sticking from his 'cheeks'. One says to the other "So I said to Borg, lets moon these Saxon dogs."

My all time favorite cartoon series. Funny stuff.

One last one: Shows God populating the earth by shaking people out of jars. The jars have labels such as black, white, nerds, etc. Then God thinks "Hmm, need to spice this up a bit" and grabs the jar labled "jerks".

My favorite, which I always wanted to find poster-sized to display in my work area: A parade of people walking into each other, tripping over each other, sticking their elbows in each others' eyes; with two in front carrying (and one dropping) a sign they're holding upside down that says, "IMBECILES UNITE."
"I didn't hear a single comment about airboxes, "carbashians", or how terrible the car looked. I did see dozens and dozens of little kids in awe of the speed and how cool the cars looked. We should learn from our children."

Spider sitting on a leaf with a pile of web under him.

Other spider standing in front of first spider with a mask on:

"Hey Bob...did I scare you or what?"

I've carried this one in my wallet for years...

                        "when potato salad goes bad...."

                        "Carmen Miranda's family reunion"

and I also love about all the dog ones (Rex Rules!)

                          A few favorites:

Two kangaroos jumping. The one kangaroo says to the other "Just jump you fool, you don't have to say "boing, boing".

The guy in the stall reaching for what he thinks is a piece of toilet paper but is actually the loose material from the mummy in the next stall.

One bullfrog saying to the other two, "yeah I knew Jeremiah, he was a good friend of mine...".

Unfortunately I've misplaced "Far Side” books, but one of my favorites was what dogs hear.

                            As I recall, in the first frame the dog owner is talking to the dog;

“Good boy, Fido. Now sit, Fido. Good dog. Now come over hear and beg, Fido. Good Fido. Now roll over Fido. Good Fido. etc.

What the dog hears is; “Bla bla, Fido. Bla bla, Fido. Bla bla, bla bla bla bla, Fido. Bla Fido. Bla bla bla Fido, Bla, Fido.”

As a gift for Christmas last year, my boys gave me "The Complete Far Side" which is a large (at least 12" high, 5"-6" wide), hardback, HEAVY (several pounds) collection of two volumes. I've been through it twice.
One of my favorites: two spiders have woven a web across the bottom of a playground slide. One is saying to the other "if we pull this off, we'll eat like kings".
