  • IU Fans - Just for you...

I figure you probably forgot what it looked like...

There's no "I" in Team and there's no "I"'s on the current end of that chain.

Watch out TD, Purdue fans will fight back with their final four banners. They even made the final game once and only lost by 20.

I hope Purdue takes care of that bucket because it'll be returning to IU for a long stay in the next couple years.

They had a decent team with Joe Barely Cares but Keady couldn't even take The Big Fog to the Final Four.

I thought they'd make it with Troy Lewis. But they petered out just short in the final eight game.

IIRC Kansas State kept them out of the round of 8...wasn't it Rolando Blackman who hit the jumper to beat them or am I mixing years as I'm prone to do?

            Weren't they a #1 that year?

OK, I looked him up and he was drafted in '81 so that wasn't the case. Did Rolando knock out Mark Aguire's DePaul team?

                OK.

                I looked this up too....

Rolando hit the jumper at the buzzer to beat #1 Oregon State the same day #1 DePaul lost.

I should prolly look this stuff up before I post.

BTW, while looking up the story on Rolando Blackmon I stumbled across a great article on the NCAA tournament's most amazing day.

Oh god, I SHOULD know this but I had to look it up too.

                    From www.kstatesports.com

                    "1981

It’s the shot heard round the Sunflower State as Rolando Blackman drills a 16-foot baseline jumper to knock second-ranked Oregon State out of the NCAA Tournament. For his efforts, Blackman becomes the first Wildcat featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated. K-State continues its improbable march through the Big Dance, upsetting No. 19 Illinois before falling to No. 6 North Carolina in the West Regional Final, 82-68."

In fairness, I wasn't even a year old at the time and was still 17 years away from setting foot on campus for the first time. Success in Men's Basketball has been a completely foregin concept since the day I decided to attend KSU.

Mitch Richmond was the best player on that Kansas State team that beat the great 1988 Boiler team. I think that Purdue was the best team in the country that year, but they just ran into a very, very hot player that night.

Purdue did get a little revenge. They beat the best football team we have ever had in the 1998 Alamo Bowl. Granted there was some hangover from the Big 12 Championship Game loss to A&M in double OT and getting the shaft from the BCS, but Drew Brees played a whale of a game as well.

Having grown up in Colorado, most of my knowledge of KSU basketball is pretty limited, as most of it happened long before I ever considered going to K-State, and I've always been more of a Football fan anyway.
