UAW, Ford open talks on healthcare costs
Detroit Free Press
The United Auto Workers has started talks with Ford Motor Co. on changes to retiree healthcare benefits, similar to the recent deal the union reached with General Motors Corp., UAW President Ron Gettelfinger said. After GM and the UAW announced a deal on Oct. 17 that would cut GM's healthcare costs, Ford said it would also seek an agreement with the union. Before any agreement on healthcare with Ford, the union would first conduct a thorough analysis of the automaker as it did with GM, Gettelfinger said. Ford did not immediately return a telephone call seeking comment.
