  • Red flag warning - Don't roast weenies tonight

I've never heard of this before

    Red Flag Warning
    RED FLAG WARNING
    NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LOUISVILLE KY
    1254 PM EST SAT NOV 12 2005

...RED FLAG WARNING FOR STRONG SOUTHERLY WINDS AND LOW RELATIVE
HUMIDITY UNTIL 7 PM EST FOR SOUTH CENTRAL INDIANA AND CENTRAL
    KENTUCKY.

SOUTHERLY WINDS WILL INCREASE AHEAD OF AN APPROACHING COLD FRONT.
THESE WINDS COMBINED WITH RELATIVE HUMIDITY VALUES BELOW 25 PERCENT
WILL CREATE DANGEROUS FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS.

A RED FLAG WARNING MEANS THAT CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS
ARE EITHER OCCURRING NOW...OR WILL SHORTLY. A COMBINATION OF
STRONG WINDS...LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY...AND WARM TEMPERATURES WILL
    CREATE EXPLOSIVE FIRE GROWTH POTENTIAL.

You should have been living in Florida a few years back...

what was most helpful back then was wind direction.

If you haven't had much rain then they are probably worried about the Fall foliage that should all be on the ground by now.

It's blowing like crazy up here right now. If this is coming you're way, beware. Sustained at 30...at times up to 55.

Get the lawn furniture in put away!

I'd suggest major quantities of beer. Trust me...you won't care.

We get Red Flag Warnings in North Texas quite frequently. Almost any time there is a strong southwesterly (dry) wind the fire danger goes way up. Especially this year with everything as dry as it is, the place is a bit of a tinderbox.

Rake?? I don't need no stinkin' rake... we don't have fall foliage down here,,, leaves will die of old age and fall on the ground green, a little color would be nice though.

For us Hoosiers the worst thing about southerly winds is the smell.

We get 'em all the time. Not a new thing when you live in a place where the state tree is the TELEPHONE POLE

Thank you, thank you very much...I'll be here all week...be sure to tip your waitress

But thanks foir the heads up... I called my Mom and asked her how windy it was and she told me that she opened her screen door and it broke when it slamed against the house... she didn't get hurt or anything.

However you can't blame these storms on why all the trees (and telephone poles) around Lafayette Indiana lean towards the Purdue campus.
