    THE ALMOST SCHWAMI WAGER

Friday Race 7 - Santa Anita

There are two horses in this race almost linked. They are Clem Labine and Minoso.

Labine pitched for the Dodgers, and didn't have much of a career---77-56 in 13 seasons. He pitched only one inning of the 1959 World Series---game 1 in which the Dodgers were blown out 11-0 by the Chicago White Sox.

Minnie Minoso had been playing for the White Sox, but they traded him after the 1957 season. The Sox reacquired him in 1960, and the club president, because he regretted the trade he made two years before, awarded Minoso an American League championship ring.

So when I saw these two names I thought, had they played against each other? No. But almost.

I almost made a bet, thanks for posting that.

Good thing you didn't---Minoso is 0-15 the last 2 years.

Minnie should sue for misappropriation of his name.

It has become a thing in horse racing today. Lots of them being named after ball players.
          Who remembers Junior Gilliam?

I remember a Gilliam who played for the Dodgers in the 60s & 70s... Don't recall his first name being Junior though.

Maybe that Gilliam was Junior's father.

His first name was Jim, but he was always referred to as Junior.
Maury Wills at shortstop; Charley Neal at second.
