Hopefully the damage won't be too severe. The cathedral was being renovated, and plenty of tools and equipment used in that work can start a fire. That's what happened to the clipper Cutty Sark 12 years ago (fortunately it was repaired). All it takes is somebody leaving a vacuum cleaner running too long....

This is nothing short of horrible. There had to have been people inside.
"I didn't hear a single comment about airboxes, "carbashians", or how terrible the car looked. I did see dozens and dozens of little kids in awe of the speed and how cool the cars looked. We should learn from our children."

That is not cool. At least it is mostly stone.

Heartbreaking image. A grave cultural loss with historical impact.

It is bad. What i just saw shows the whole roof gone. And the spire collapsed.

Devastating. Terrible to see such an icon lost. (or more correctly said: damaged severely, so much will be saved)

There was still some 800+ year old wood in the cathedral. Such a shame this is happening

Just devastating. Not just to French Catholics... Not just to the French. We've seen one giant step for mankind... This is one giant loss for mankind. As one who considers himself a student of architecture this is soul shattering. We've lost something that can never be replaced.
