The French are at it again

Perhaps it's the German in me, but it seems to me like it's time for France to be invaded again.

Muslim headscarves and other religious symbols are almost certain to be banned from French schools and public buildings after a specially appointed commission told the government yesterday that legislation was needed to defend the secular nature of the state.

The 20-member group, appointed by President Jacques Chirac and headed by the national ombudsman, Bernard Stasi, recommended that all "conspicuous" signs of religious belief - specifically including Jewish skullcaps, oversized Christian crosses and Islamic headscarves - be outlawed in state-approved schools.

On a serious note, I'm getting pretty tired of the France-bashing around here. And all because they wouldn't play along with GWB's little fantasy that's evolved into an ugly reality. Y'know, France was successfully fighting the war on terrorism years before 9/11. They've pretty much put all of the Islamic terrorist cells in their country out of business. They just refuse to put up with that cr*p, and more power to 'em.

sf, my grandfather ate some hot lead in Verdun trying to liberate France. Many among us have relatives who weren't as lucky as he (Grandpa was wounded and discharged).

I think the French owe us their support.

On a serious note, I thought I heard that a terrorist warning was issued for Paris thru the Christmas holiday. I believe I saw that on CNN at the start of the month.

The whole "we aren't going to issue any bids to Canada, France, Germany, Russia, etc." is just a red herring meant to take the focus off what is really being done with our tax dollars.

Normally nobody else would expect to recieve American tax dollars spent in the reconstruction of Iraq. All of that money 100% of should be going to American companies and American companies only.

You better believe money being given to reconstruct Iraq by Japan, England, Spain, etc. is going to go to compaines of those respective countries.

The goal here is to take the focus off the money that Bush promised other countries to go along with his desire to rid the world of Iraqi WMDs. Bush likes to call that incentive money while others have called it a bribe.

Call it what you will it's your money collected from your taxes and especially in these times as it normally would that money should be going to American companies and American workers.

Funny thing is the smart thing would have been to keep quiet about such a move... if giving our tax dollars to other countires was the norm... it would have been stupid to to make this public at the same time we are sending Jim Baker to those "non-helpfull" countries in an attempt to get them to forgive Iraqi debt.

However if the real goal was to take the focus off the bribes being paid out then this memo getting leaked wasn't stupid at all.
