  • California murders

    From a story at CNN...

"The largest cities and counties reported 1,842 killings from January through December 2002 -- 179 more than in 2001, according to preliminary figures from the state attorney general's office. "

Perhaps we should ask for intervention by the UN...or better yet, pull the cops out of California...

I think the statistics quoted were only for communities/counties above a population of 100,000; a couple hundred more would need to be added for the whole state's population:

California murder rate up nearly 11% in 2002

The figures released Sunday were for 78 areas with populations of 100,000 or more, which account for about 65% of the state's crime. The numbers were not adjusted for increases in population over the year.
Here are the statistics for Compton alone:

Compton Crime Statistics and Crime Data

Overall, California violent crime rates (and national) on a population basis have been dropping:

      California Crime Rates 1960 - 2000

So what do folks think? More published material for an anti-gun ownership agenda?

Who does the forth estate really support?

Oops, it's not the lunch hour anymore. Jefe is pacing.

I wonder what percentage of the murders in the USA are " drug - related "?

According to the Department of Justice web site,
4.6% of violent crimes the perpatrator was on Drugs, 48.8% undetermined year 2001. That doesn't talk to the motivation of violent crime. Did not see a stat that pulled drugs in as the reason.

          Alcohol was far higher.

body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting
